<p>Joseph Flynn II, a lifelong resident of Beacon, New York, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on August 3, 1939, to Jane and Joseph Flynn, he grew up in Beacon, a community to which he remained deeply connected throughout his life. </p><p><br></p><p>In fact, Joseph became an avid golfer as he got older, and it was a near certainty that, on any given day, you could find him on the course or in the clubhouse of Beacon’s Southern Dutchess Golf Course. Joseph’s passion for sports was lifelong. In his younger days, he was a force to be reckoned with on the basketball court and a sure-handed shortstop on the baseball field. Joseph also enjoyed spending time with family and friends by the ocean, especially on the Jersey Shore at Ocean Beach 3, a beach community in Toms River. </p><p><br></p><p>Joseph was proud to be a United States Army veteran. During his military years, he was stationed in Okinawa and was a member of the US Army Security Agency, a branch of the Army that was responsible for intercepting and analyzing enemy communications. After his service to the country, Joseph began a career at IBM that would span decades. His dedication and work ethic were hallmarks of both his military and professional lives.</p><p><br></p><p>Joseph is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon Flynn; his two children, Joseph Flynn III and his wife Jayme, Kelly Bialko and her husband Keith; his stepchildren, John Oakes and his wife Amy, Jim Oakes and his wife Karen, Greg Oakes and his wife Cynthia and his cherished grandchildren: Alex, Summer, Riley, Keith, Jack, Liam, Erin, Patrick, Brady, and Keegan. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Jack, and Richard Flynn, as well as his sister Anne Marie.</p><p><br></p><p>Joseph was the life of the party. He loved his Chianti, and his warmth and love for life will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to those he leaves behind.</p><p><br></p><p>Family and friends will gather on Monday, January 13 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Riverview Funeral Home by Halvey, 2 Beekman Street, Beacon. A funeral service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Private cremation will follow.
