He was born in Jackson, MS and was the eldest child of Manuel Hopson and Jessie Mae Hopson whom both preceded him in death along with his brothers John Hopson and Charlie Hopson as well as childhood friend of 65 years, Claude “CJ” James. Bobby was educated in grade school in Jackson, MS before moving to Pensacola, FL where he continued his education until graduating from Booker T. Washington Senior High School, Class of 1964. Following his graduation, Bobby attended Pensacola Junior College before being drafted to serve in the U.S. Army. He is a proud Vietnam Veteran that completed basic training in Fort Lewis, Washington and honorably served as a Heavy Vehicle Driver in the 442nd Transportation Company.

After returning from war, Bobby was employed with Armstrong World Industries as a Fabrication Technician and worked there for 34 years before retiring early in 2002. During his retirement he enjoyed fishing, traveling, taking walks around his neighborhood nearly daily, spending time with family and friends, and tending to his garden and plants as an elite “green thumb”. Among the hobbies that he had, Bobby also loved classic cars and

restored a 1991 convertible Ford Mustang 5.0 as a part of his passion. Bobby will

always be remembered for his kindness, compassion, sound advice, and for being the best “Homie” that everyone needed.

In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family requests that donations be made in Bobby's honor to:

Booker T.
