<p>John Richard Pizzuro, 82, of Wall Township, NJ passed away on December 31, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.</p><p></p><p>He was born on December 2, 1942 to Giovanni Pizzuro and Mary (Interdonato) Pizzuro in Passaic, New Jersey. John grew up in North Arlington, New Jersey, and subsequently moved to Lodi, New Jersey, and Wall Township, New Jersey.</p><p><br></p><p>John graduated from the Lodi School System in 1960 and began his studies at Fairleigh Dickinson University until he was drafted into the Army.</p><p><br></p><p>John served in the United States Army and the Vietnam War from April 6, 1964, to March 31, 1966, and received an honorable discharge. A member of the “Big Red One” he was awarded the following decorations: Expert (Rifle M-14), Combat Infantry Badge, Good Conduct Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal.</p><p><br></p><p>John returned to his studies post-war and attended Bergen Community College, where he earned an Associate's Degree in Political Science. Thereafter, he obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Law and Public Safety from William Paterson University.</p><p><br></p><p>John and his wife, Julie resided in Lodi for 28 years. He made a tremendous impact as a police chief and political figure. After beginning as a patrolman in 1968, John was appointed detective in 1974. He was then promoted to the rank of sergeant. He, along with a colleague, developed a Crime Prevention Program aimed at America’s youth. This program used puppet characters and was the first in the state of New Jersey. He was asked to go nationally with the program but opted to stay in Lodi, close to his family. This was an achievement he was most proud of during his career. He was promoted to lieutenant in 1984, captain in 1988, and then promoted to Chief of Police until he retired.</p><p><br></p><p>John and Julie moved to Wall Township in 2000 where they also made an imprint on the community. John was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus and a devoted parishioner of St. Rose Church in Belmar where he sang in the choir. In his free time, he could be found hunting, fishing on his boat, “The John “G” and spending time with his family and beloved grandchildren. He also enjoyed singing to the tune of Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra and will forever be remembered for his story-telling ability.</p><p><br></p><p>John will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.</p><p></p><p>John is survived by his sister, Sandra Pizzuro; son, John Pizzuro, Jr. &amp; Allison Mann; his daughter, Heather Pizzuro &amp; wife Megan Urquhart; and his grandchildren, Colin, Jenna, Jack, and Jameson.</p><p></p><p>He was preceded in death by his wife, Julie; mother and father, Giovanni Pizzuro &amp; Mary (Interdonato) Pizzuro; as well as his brother, Salvatore.</p><p><br></p><p>A visitation will take place on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, from 2:00pm-4:00pm, and then 7:00pm-9:00pm, at Old Bridge Funeral Home, 2350 Route 516, Old Bridge, NJ 08857.</p><p></p><p>A memorial mass will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at 10:30am at St. Rose Roman Catholic Church, 603 7th Ave, Belmar, NJ 07719.</p><p></p><p>Graveside Burial will take place on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at 12:30pm at the Brigadier William C.
