Morris and Henderson Odom on November 30th, 1961 and raised in the Mount Airy neighborhood of Philadelphia. </p><p>Gary Odom, better known as "The Legendary DJ Gary O", a Philadelphia disc jockey, radio personality, and club promoter, passed away on December 18th, 2024, at the age of 63. </p><p>Gary was known for his magnetic voice, charismatic energy, and unparalleled connection to music, DJ Gary O became an iconic figure in Philadelphia's cultural and entertainment scene, leaving behind a legacy that will be remembered for generations. </p><p>Gary's love for music blossomed at an early age, nurtured by the soulful sounds of R&amp;B and funk that filled his home and community in Philadelphia. He attended St. Raymond's Catholic School before continuing his education at Bishop McDevitt High School, where his talents and accomplishments earned him a place in the school's Alumni Hall of Fame in 2020. As a teenager, Gary began spinning records at local parties and gatherings, quickly gaining recognition for his ability to read the crowd and keep the dance floor alive. These early experiences would lay the foundation for a remarkable career in music. </p><p>Gary's big break came when he joined the legendary Power 99 FM and later became affiliated with WDAS-FM, Philadelphia institutions renowned for their dedication to Black music and culture. As a DJ, he quickly became a household name, captivating audiences with his dynamic presence and encyclopedic knowledge of music. Whether it was hosting late-night shows, curating mixes that reflected the heartbeat of the city, or championing up-and-coming artists, Gary's contributions to the airwaves went far beyond entertainment—they were a celebration of Philadelphia's vibrant music scene. </p><p>DJ Gary O was a pioneering club promoter. He was instrumental in organizing some of the city's most memorable events and nightlife experiences, creating spaces where music lovers could come together to dance, connect, and celebrate. His passion for bringing people together extended beyond the turntables and microphones. </p><p>Gary was also deeply committed to philanthropy and community work. Morris and Henderson Odom; a brother, Michael Odom (Bernadine); a niece, Victoria Odom, a nephew, Tyler Odom, a grandniece, Kaci Odom; his radio sisters, Patty Jackson and Lady B; a host of cousins, friends, and countless fans who will remember his vibrant spirit and enduring legacy in the music industry. His passing is a profound loss for the Philadelphia community, but his legacy will live on in the music he shared, the lives he touched, and the inspiration he provided. </p>
