<p>Robert Swoverland, a beloved husband, father, teacher, coach, and friend, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 25, 2024, at HonorHealth Hospital in Scottsdale after a courageous battle with melanoma. He was 63 years old.</p><p><br></p><p>Born on April 16, 1961, in Saginaw, Michigan, Robert was the son of Robert (Bob) and Katherine (Kate) Swoverland. He was a devoted husband to Laurie Swoverland for 38 years and a loving father to his son, Robert (Bo) Swoverland.</p><p><br></p><p>Robert was a passionate educator, teaching for over 20 years, most notably at Horizon High School where he taught Biology and Earth Science. He was known for his quick wit, sarcastic sense of humor, and brutal honesty, which made him a favorite among his students who nicknamed him “Papa Swoves.” His sarcasm and candid approach to teaching left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege to learn from him. Prior to his teaching career, Robert worked as a chiropractor for over 15 years, always dedicated to helping others and making a difference in their lives.</p><p><br></p><p>A lifelong sports enthusiast, Robert was an avid basketball player and coach. He spent ten years coaching his son, Bo, in club basketball, sharing his love for the game. Robert was also a passionate supporter of his hometown teams from Michigan. In January 2024, he fulfilled a lifelong dream when he witnessed the University of Michigan football team win the national championship in Houston with his son, Bo, whom he named after the legendary Michigan football coach, Bo Schembechler.&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p>Robert is survived by his wife Laurie, his son Bo, and his brothers Rick Swoverland, Randy Swoverland, Gary&nbsp;Will, and Joe Will. His legacy of tough love, sarcastic jokes, and endless knowledge will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.</p><p><br></p><p>A memorial service to celebrate Robert’s life will be held on Friday, January 10, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Messinger Pinnacle Peak Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to <a href="//secure3.convio.net/smfba/site/Donation2?df_id=17764&amp;17764.donation=form1&amp;utm_source=google&amp;utm_medium=cpc&amp;utm_campaign=lt_holiday-2024&amp;utm_content=tax-credit&amp;gad_source=1&amp;gclid=CjwKCAiA6aW6BhBqEiwA6KzDcx3gZs9IxPS8T4J5XXnMh-qYg_5Dgulhok_1isL9NqR2ORDPF4uifxoC06MQAvD_BwE#gad_source_1">St. Mary’s Food Bank of Arizona</a>, Robert’s charity of choice.</p>
