Dr. John Charles Gentry
<p>Reverend Dr. John Charles Gentry, age 93, of Providence, NC, passed away on Monday, November 25, 2024. </p><p>Mr. Gentry was born on June 20, 1931, in West Jefferson, NC, a son of the late Lawrence and Bertie Hopkins Gentry. </p><p>He served his country in the US Army and later married the love of his life, Mary Jo Blackburn Gentry in 1953. Mr. Gentry was a proud pastor who led numerous people to Christ during his decade’s long service in the ministry. Before his ministry, he worked several years at Dan River Mills, then as an agent for Southland Life Insurance Company for many years. Mr. Gentry took over as pastor of Gatewood Baptist Church upon his father’s retirement. Mr. Gentry led and grew the church until his retirement in 2012. Even though he retired as the pastor he never stopped in the ministry. His lifelong hobbies included buying and selling cars and trucks, trading guns and beagles and running rabbits with his dogs. </p><p>Mr. Gentry leaves behind his son, Randy Gentry; daughter, Kathy Crumpton; grandchildren, Hunter Lee Gentry, Morgan Gray Gentry, Chad Crumpton; great-grandchildren, Sabian Crumpton, Zildjian Crumpton. He also leaves behind many special extended family members, friends and his church family that he loved. </p><p>In addition to his parents and wife he was predeceased by a sister, Dean Gentry Carter. </p><p>Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at 12 PM at Gatewood Baptist Church with Reverend Don Sessions officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. </p><p>Swicegood Funeral Service is respectfully serving the Gentry family. </p>June 20, 1931 - November 25, 202406/20/193111/25/2024
