<p>Jack Edward Mehaffey II, 80, of Claremont passed away on Monday, November 4, 2024 at his residence.</p><p><br></p><p>He was born July 9, 1944 in Buncombe County to the late Jack Edward Mehaffey and Marie English Mehaffey. Jack was a member of Olivet Baptist Church in Catawba,was a veteran of the United States Navy and retired from UPS. He was in the UPS Circle of Honor and spent four years as a Navy Seal “Frogman”.</p><p><br></p><p>In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Anita Mehaffey and Jean Conley; and brother, David Kevin Mehaffey.</p><p><br></p><p>Those left to cherish his memory are;</p><p><br></p><p>Wife of 32 years: Madeline Reavis Mehaffey of the home</p><p><br></p><p></p><p>Sons: Jack “Chip” Mehaffey and wife Barbara of Rutherfordton</p><p> Michael Darren Mehaffey of Rutherfordton</p><p> Zachary James Smith and wife Krystle of Union Grove</p><p><br></p><p></p><p>Sister: Sandra Mehaffey Currie and husband Ernie of Denver</p><p><br></p><p></p><p>Grandchildren: River Smith, Brant Smith, Bodie Smith, Ridge Smith and Timber Smith</p><p><br></p><p>Support Dog: Rosie Lou Mehaffey</p><p><br></p><p>Care Givers: Lakea Sifford, Taylor Carlton, Nancy Cable and Beulah Morefield</p><p><br></p><p></p><p>A memorial service with military honors to celebrate Jack’s life will be held on Sunday, November 10, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at Olivet Baptist Church in Catawba. Rev. Matt Rummage will officiate.
