<p>Helen Sue Nucci, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2024, at the age of 87. Born on September 2, 1937, in Detroit to Herbert and Helen (Shulter) Annas, Sue lived a life full of love, laughter, and dedication to her family, friends, and faith.</p><p><br></p><p>Sue married her first husband, Walter Schmalenberg, in January 1956. Together, they began a beautiful family, and Sue cherished her role as a wife and mother. Walter passed away suddenly in 1967, leaving Sue to continue building a loving home for their children. A few years later, she met Antonio Nucci, and they were married in August 1969. With Antonio, Sue’s family grew once more, and she thrived in her role as a wife and mother to their family.</p><p><br></p><p>Sue obtained an Associate’s degree and soon began a 20 year career as an optician for SVS Vision, where she served her community with dedication and care. Outside of work, she was known for her zest for life and love of travel, especially to Las Vegas and on cruises. She spent countless weekends at the family cottage in Lake, Michigan, and enjoyed her Saturday nights out with friends at the American Legion, Eagles, or Knights of Columbus. Sue’s joyful spirit was evident in her love for hosting Christmas gatherings every year and creating a warm, welcoming home.</p><p><br></p><p>A skilled seamstress, Sue often sewed her own clothes and even her wedding dress, passing her talents on by teaching sewing to Girl Scouts. She was crafty in all areas and had a special knack for making life beautiful and unique.</p><p><br></p><p>Sue was also a lifelong Christian whose faith was a guiding light throughout her life. Her presence, kindness, and unwavering dedication to her loved ones will forever be remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing her.</p><p><br></p><p>Sue is survived by her loving children Mark (Michelle) Schmalenberg, Amy (Michael) Cosentino, Katie Nucci, Paul (Mary) Nucci, and Janie Milewski; cherished grandchildren Brett Schmalenberg, Blaire (Daniel) Wells, Stephanie (Taylor) Gilliland, Laura (Alex) Armbruster, Christina Cosentino, Derek Milewski, Ryan Milewski, Tony Nucci; adoring step-grandchildren Robert, Matt, Kayla, Troy, and Ellyse; beloved great-grandson Jacob; dear siblings Herb (Karen) Annas and Tom (Sue) Annas; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and husbands Walter and Antonio. She leaves a legacy of love, laughter, and faith that will continue to inspire all who knew her.</p><p><br></p><p>A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024 from 12-3pm with a memorial service beginning at 3pm at the Faulmann and Walsh Golden Rule Funeral Home, 32814 Utica Road, Fraser, MI 48026.
