Kameron Robert Kukla

Memorial trees planted for:

Kameron Robert Kukla

On October 19 at 1:40 am, our sweet baby boy, Kameron, unexpectedly passed away. He, like his younger brother Kody, was the light of our lives, Kameron, an extremely special little boy, was unfortunately born with a rare genetic disorder (KCNT1) that greatly affected his life and overall health. He was looked after 24/7 by his loving mother, Dana Kukla.

When he was diagnosed at 3 months, the doctors told us to just take him home and enjoy the time we had left with him. There was no cure and no hope for him. They wrote him off; we did not. Dana went to work to fixing the unfixable.

She started making calls. One of those calls was to Lurie’s Children’s Hospital asking if they had someone who had experience with Kameron’s extremely rare genetic disorder, they said they did and they gave us an appointment 2 months out. She took it, but just 20 minutes later the doctors office called and asked if she could come in the next day.

That was the start of Kam’s very long and complicated journey. There were months of different drug testing and drug therapies, a change to a ketogenic diet and intensive physical therapy. Kam started to make progress. The immovable stone was moving.

We would continue to hit every bump in the road we could, and it seemed inevitable. That wouldn’t stop him or Dana. It got to the point that nothing seemed to stop him, not Flu, not Covid, not RSV, nothing; he was a fighter.

We enrolled him in a special school for kids with severe special needs. There Kam found his tribe; a whole new support system that was invested in him, as we were. They told us constantly they knew that he was our baby but when he’s there with them, he was their baby! Kameron would very rarely smile, just part of his condition, he probably smiled the most when he was at school. That’s how much he loved it!

Kameron unfortunately caught a respiratory virus that he just couldn’t shake. It took him quickly, in just a matter of days. It’s impossible to even think about.

Kameron would never lead a normal life. He would never walk or talk, or ever be able to care for himself in any way. None of that mattered; he was our little miracle. We would continue to do everything we could to give him as close to a normal life as we could. Kam had a beautiful disposition. For everything he had to deal with, he was an extremely peaceful child, just an absolute pleasure to be around. He never talked or communicated but he let his feelings about things be known lol, he could say more to us just through a simple look or little movement. He was so unique and just so special, it’s so hard to know he’s gone. He has left a hole in the hearts of everyone he’s touched, especially his mothers and mine. He will never be forgotten and he will forever be loved and missed and live on in our hearts and memories. Prayers for Kameron and my family are always welcome and appreciated.

Until we meet again my son, we will forever keep you in our hearts, my special little baby boy, I will always love you, always, Daddy

Kameron Robert Kukla, of Glenview, Illinois was born on January 11th, 2019, the deeply loved son of Jay and Dana. Kam was a dear brother to Kody and Aiden, a much-loved grandson to Dennis & Val and a precious nephew to both of his Uncle Robs, his Uncle Dustin and his Aunt Juliana. Kam was beloved of his cousins Drew, Sky and Riley and all of his ‘greats’, Stephanie & Bob and Gretchen & Randy. He will be greatly missed.

Kameron will be cremated. His ashes will remain with his parents. Memorial visitation will be held this Sunday, October 27th from 12:00 pm until time of service at 4:00 pm at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 1104 Waukegan Road, Glenview, IL. Parking is in the rear of the building and overflow parking is right next door at Heinen’s Grocery Store by permission.
