<p>James Fredrick (Freddie) Harless, 81, of Gilbert, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2024, at the Genesis Logan Center in Logan, West Virginia. Born on November 10, 1942, in Gilbert, he was a lifelong resident of the community he cherished. </p><p>Freddie was preceded in death by his father, Fred D. Harless; his mother, Sophia (Sally) Prosoco Harless; in-laws Woodrow Sr. and Pauline Miller; sister Barbara Harless (Jim) England; brothers-in-law Dr. Juan Nordelo, David Austin, and Phil Acord; beloved friends, Debra Burgess and Donna Dillon, and childhood friend, Tommy Lester. </p><p>He is survived by his devoted spouse of 37 years, Martha Lou (Miller) Harless; children James Fredrick (Tige) Harless II and Daniel DeWitt Harless, both of Logan, West Virginia; sister Patricia Jean Harless Nordelo of Ocala, Florida; brothers-in-law Woodrow (Woody) Miller, Jr., Mark Miller, and sister-in-law Elaine (Tom) Miller Gillispie, all of St. Albans, West Virginia and sister-in-law Paulette Acord of Chattanooga, Tennessee; many cherished nieces and nephews; special friends Bruce Burgess and Andy Dillon; his beloved nephew, Tommy Gillispie; and the faithful employees of Gilbert Distributing and Gilbert Pit Stop. </p><p>A proud graduate of Gilbert High School in 1960, Freddie was recognized as the highest-scoring high school basketball player in West Virginia. He received a basketball scholarship to the West Virginia School of Technology in Montgomery, WV, where he majored in business. A beloved member of the Gilbert community, Freddie was a successful businessman, founding Gilbert Distributing, Inc. and Gilbert Pit Stop. </p><p>Freddie was a lifelong member of Gilbert Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder for many years. He was a passionate supporter of Gilbert High School and West Virginia University athletics, attending numerous sporting events at both local and state levels over the years. He also coached Little League football and served as president of Gilbert High School's football booster club.&nbsp; An avid golfer, he enjoyed playing at local, state, and regional courses with his wife Martha and friends Bruce and Debra Burgess. </p><p>A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at the Larry Joe Harless Community Center in Gilbert, with visitation with family and friends beginning at 12 noon. The family is being served by Mounts Funeral Home of Gilbert. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Gilbert Presbyterian Church, PO Box 496, Gilbert, WV 25621. </p><p>Freddie's family extends its heartfelt thanks to his special caregiver Natisha Browning and the staff at Genesis Logan Center for their compassionate care and support.&nbsp; Freddie’s warmth, generosity, and passion for life will be deeply missed by all who knew him. </p>
