Christine L. Fruhlinger

Christine L. (Burke) Fruhlinger, 73, formerly of New Holland, passed away on September 25, 2024, as a resident of The Gardens at Stevens.

Born in Pittsburgh, she is the daughter of the late John J. and Ellen M. (Farrell) Burke.

She was employed in the hospitality industry for over 30 years. In recent years she worked for Country Squire Inn and Suites in New Holland. She attended Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and St. John Neumann Catholic Church. To know Chrissy, was to love Chrissy. Always smiling, she loved unconditionally and with her whole heart and taught her daughters to do the same. That love extended to everyone she met, as she left a mark on everyone who knew her. Starting from very humble beginnings, she often had to persevere, showing her daughters how to draw strength from within. She was their biggest cheerleader, united beside them, without any questions asked. She was unwavering in her display of class and dignity until the very end. She was often unaware of the impact she was making on those around her. She never hesitated to help those in need; she would take from herself before letting others go hungry or without. She lived a simple life, and was most happy not with material things, but with a walk to the library, a bowl of ice cream, a bus ride to see her grandchildren or a trip to a local restaurant. She had few possessions but felt extremely rich in the relationships with her daughters and grandchildren. They were “the best part of her,” as she would say. She was happiest being a grandma, slipping her grandchildren $5 or cookies every chance she got. She took care of everyone around her, including her daughter’s friends, who thought of her as a second mother in addition to those who needed a helping hand. She would welcome, bake for and feed anyone who wanted a spot at her table. There was never a dull moment when Chrissy was with you. Anyone that encountered her left with a funny story to tell down the road. Those same stories are now the inspiration and strength left behind to guide the family on. The love that she showed others continues to live on in her daughters and her grandchildren. The fierce advocacy for her care by her daughters, in her final year, was a true testament to the love and devotion they have for her.

Christine is survived by her daughters, Lisa Macrina of Lancaster and Jennifer, wife of Ryan Smith, of Lancaster, her pride and joy, her grandchildren, Marissa Macrina, Sofia Macrina, Cael Smith and Caden Smith and by her nieces, Kimberly Cahill, Aimee Styers and Danelle Fields, along with lifelong friends she was still connected to from Pittsburgh. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, whom she adored, Elizabeth Burke. In 2005, she reunited with her birth family, parents, Bernard Goldman and Leona Smithoover, deceased, and sister, Jami Goldman.

A Visitation will be held on Monday, October 7, 2024, from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Groff High Funeral Home, 145 W Main Street, New Holland PA 17557. Mass will be held at 12:00 PM, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 150 Water Street, New Holland PA 17557 with Father Steven Fauser officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made in Christine’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org or mailed to 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601 or to Christ’s Home, 3182 Lincoln Hwy E. Paradise, PA 17562.
