Timothy John O'Halloran

Timothy John O’Halloran, 52, of Hollywood, Florida, passed away after a sudden illness. Tim was never alone in his short battle, and he fought the way that those who know him grew to admire throughout his life.

Tim was born on April 3, 1972 in Dorchester, MA to Dr. John “Jack” F. O’Halloran and Frances C. (Morstadt) O’Halloran. Tim attended elementary school at The Vinal School in Norwell, MA and graduated from Norwell High School in 1991 where he enjoyed a successful wrestling career. His graduation was celebrated more than most as it was a triumph of spirit and perseverance.

Tim had been severely injured in an accident on April 13th, 1990 which left him dependent on a wheelchair for the remainder of his life. Surrounded by a loving community, family and the most amazing friends a person could wish for, Tim found the strength to return to school just 5 months after his accident. Armed with an amazing sense of humor and tremendous strength of character Tim had the will to “walk” in his graduation procession with a beautiful blonde, named Cashmere, by his side. Cashmere was the love of his life; a NEADS service dog who bolstered his spirit and eased him into his new life in a wheelchair. She anticipated his needs and quietly taught him things that others could not. It was truly beautiful to behold.

Tim made plans to attend The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale and move to Hollywood, Florida to live bravely and independently. In Florida, Tim quickly became a “hot house flower”, and gratefully gave up the winters of Massachusetts. It was also a wonderful vacation spot for his friends to visit often. He graduated in 1993 with a degree in Graphic Design and returned a few years later and earned a degree in 3D Animation.

Tim had been an artist from the time he was old enough to hold a pencil. Destroying his sister’s dolls with a sharpie was where his career was launched. Tim began to apply for jobs and was met with many obstacles; offices that gave him a hard time about the dog or claimed to be ADA compliant but were not. He didn’t let that discourage him, instead a career in freelance was born. Tim worked for FUN U an online company for college students, he did contract work for Paradise Embroidery and created coloring books for a variety of business, such as Sea World and the Florida School system. He did a lot of private client work and thoroughly enjoyed the artistic freedom it allowed him. His paintings are numerous and incredibly expressive.

Tim was a prolific painter and animator, a great athlete, a skier, wrestler, skateboarder, excellent chef and lover of animals. Tim was known as the “mayor” of his neighborhood in Hollywood, FL. He was always rescuing injured animals and nursing them back to health and he was a friend to his neighbors who could always rely on him and they certainly returned the favor.

After his first service dog Cashmere passed away Tim went on to adopt two stray dogs in his lifetime. The first was Shady, a tough looking girl from the streets of South Florida, who would protect and love him for a full 19 years. The next was Nugget who lives on with a buoyancy and lightness so reflective of Tim.

Tim was preceded in death by both of his parents and his brother, John “Jack” F. O’Halloran III. He is survived by his brother, Matthew and sister, Christine. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews: Christian DiModica, Erin O’Halloran, Bradley DiModica, Corinne O’Halloran, Callie DiModica, Madelyn O’Halloran and Sarah DiModica. His beloved dog Nugget will be escorted to a wonderful life in MA.

A Wake will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2024 from 4 – 7 PM at The McNamara – Sparrell Funeral Home at 30 Central Street, Norwell, MA 02061. The graveside funeral will be held at Milton Cemetery on October 4, 2024 at 11 AM. Please meet at the main gate off Centre Street and you will be given further instructions at that time.

Our family would love to have you join us for a joyous celebration of Timothy immediately following the graveside service at Oro located at 227 Chief Justice Cushing Highway, Scituate, MA 02066. We will celebrate with an open bar and delicious food in true Tim style!! Please bring your best Tim stories and let his spirit of kindness and joy ease us all through his departure.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in memory of Tim O’Halloran to NEADS World Class Service Dogs by mailing a check to: NEADS, Inc. P.O. Box 1100, Princeton, MA 01541 or online by visiting neads.org/donate
