<p>Margaret Ann (Murphy) Bent, “Peggy”, of Mashpee, died on September 21, 2024 at Cape Cod Hospital after a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles Norman Bent, Jr. with whom she shared 40 wonderful years of marriage.</p><p><br></p><p>Peggy was born on May 6, 1937 in Boston, MA to parents Daniel Murphy and Marguerite (Connor) Murphy. She attended St. Gregory’s High School in Dorchester, and later went on to attend Regis College where she earned her bachelor’s degree, and Cardinal Stritch University where she earned her master’s degree. Peggy enjoyed a long career as an educator, working most of her career as a teacher for Holliston Middle School.</p><p><br></p><p>Peggy loved family more than anything, shortly after marrying her husband, Charlie, the couple welcomed 2 sons that completed their family. She was a woman of faith and was a parishioner at Christ the King Church in Mashpee. Peggy was a Boston Marathon volunteer for over 20 years working at the starting line which was right near her home. She also was an avid golfer and was a member of the “Tee Birds” a women’s golf group at Holly Ridge. Peggy was interested in politics - big and small issues, volunteering as an active Democratic Party Member, working with the Democratic Committee here in Mashpee, and as a Teacher’s Union Representative. She and her husband travelled extensively throughout their life visiting much of Europe, Asia, South America, and all over the United States. The couple also enjoyed spending winters in Kelly Greens in Fort Myers, FL following their retirement. Peggy will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.</p><p><br></p><p>Peggy is survived by her sons, Michael Bent, and his wife Emily, and Matthew Bent; her sisters Marilyn Kerrigan, Barbara Mahoney, and Maureen Pronovost; as well as a special granddaughter Jessie and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.</p><p><br></p><p>A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM with a Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 AM at Christ the King Church, 5 Job’s Fishing Rd., in Mashpee.
