<p>Mrs. Chang Rae Song Kim, age 100, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2024, at her family home in Fairfax, Virginia, following a very brief illness. She was born on October 2, 1923 in Seoul, Korea to Moon Wha Song and Jong Hee Lee. Her father was the mayor of Kaesong City, Korea. She had two older brothers and was the middle daughter of three. She was married to Mr. Joo Kyung Kim on May 11, 1942 in Kaesong City. She was widowed on October 4, 1943, tragically losing her husband during World War II, while expecting her only child. Her son, Sae Ryang Kim, was born on April 10, 1944. Mrs. Chang Rae Song Kim lived in Seoul, managing her household, until 1974 when she immigrated to the United States to join her son and his family who had immigrated the previous year and had settled in the Northern Virginia area. She attained her naturalized U.S. citizenship and lived in Northern Virginia with her family for over fifty years. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Kyung Ok Hong “Kay” Kim of Fairfax, her grandson, Dong Kyun “Don” Kim and granddaughter-in-law, Michelle Lee Kim of Fairfax Station, her granddaughter Taehee Kim of Fairfax, her great-grandson Ryan Jin-Young Kim, and her great-granddaughter Amanda Sun-Young Kim. Mrs. Chang Rae Song Kim very much enjoyed old-fashioned homemaking, cooking traditional Korean dishes, tending to her gardens, and playing the occasional slot machine. She was loved and respected for her kindness, wisdom, and strength, and for dedicating her entire life to caring for her family. She will be greatly missed by the family and friends who loved her, and they will carry her memory in their hearts forever.</p>October 2, 1923 - September 17, 202410/02/192309/17/2024
