<p>Gary L. Kelly, 86, of Roanoke County passed away Sunday September 1, 2024. He was born September 11, 1937 in Elkins, West Virginia to Benjamin Earl and Claris Mae Doyle Kelly who preceded him in death.</p><p><br></p><p>Surviving is his wife of 51 years, Linda Jones Kelly; daughter, Megan Kelly Dunklee and husband Nick of Longmont, Colorado.</p><p>Gary graduated from West Virginia University and the University of Florida. He served in the U S Army on active duty from 1960 to 1962. Afterwards he served in the Army reserve for twenty years and retired in 1981 as a full Colonel.</p><p><br></p><p>He worked for the Roanoke County Public Schools for thirty-five years serving in several capacities before retiring in 1999 as the Director of Guidance and Staff Development.</p><p><br></p><p>Gary was a man of faith and believed everyone had value. He was a member of Woodlawn United Methodist Church where he served in numerous capacities. He loved well and in return was well loved. He enjoyed traveling, sports, reading, and working outdoors.</p><p><br></p><p>Memorial gifts may be made to Woodlawn United Methodist Church 2922 Corbieshaw Road Roanoke, Va. 24015</p><p><br></p><p>A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 6, 2024 at Woodlawn United Methodist Church with the Rev. John B. Snyder officiating. The family will receive friends in the church social hall one hour prior to the service. Arrangements by the Electric Road Chapel of Simpson Funeral Home. 540 632 4200.</p><p><br></p>
