Maryanne Madigan

Maryanne (Tegethoff) Madigan, 92, of Simsbury Connecticut passed away peacefully on Friday, August 23, 2024 at her home, surrounded by her close family. Maryanne was born on New Year’s Day, 1932 in Brooklyn, New York after her parents had traveled from Germany. The family returned to Germany soon thereafter where they lived until 1942. After her parents divorced, with her mother Anna and brother Al, they escaped from Germany during World War II and spent the following year on Ellis Island before being allowed to immigrate to West Hartford. She attended Hall High School where she met Edward Madigan who would later become her husband of 49 years. She worked for The Travelers for a number of years before she and Ed moved into their home on Petemont Drive in Farmington, where she would live for the next 56 years and they would raise their three children, David, Edward and Scott. Maryanne was a great Mom, enjoying numerous activities with the family and spending their summers at the beach cottage in Westbrook. She loved summers at the beach with the family, the station wagon would be packed the day school got out and they wouldn’t return from the beach until school was ready to begin again. After her husband Ed’s retirement in 1984 they spent many happy years together, spending winters in Indiatlantic, Florida and summers in Westbrook, where they enjoyed frequent visits from their children and grandchildren. After Ed‘s passing in 2003, she developed a relationship with Garrett Smith, and they traveled extensively throughout the US and Europe. Maryanne had many interests which included classical music and opera, along with many spectator sports, in particular golf, tennis and college basketball. She enjoyed playing cards with “the ladies” and in later years had fun during visits to the casino with friends. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and never missed their events – sports, plays, concerts, etc. Her joy for life, love of family and sense of humor will be missed by many.

She is survived by two of her three sons, David W. Thinking of your family during this time. Although I didn't have the opportunity to meet Maryanne, I know she raised an amazing family.
