Caroline Larson, age 83, of Roscommon, died on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at her home in the presence and comfort of her family.

Caroline was born September 8, 1941, in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of John and Emily (Schmaldienst) Simitz.

Caroline was a lifelong learner. Whether through books, college courses, travel, or meeting new people she never stopped trying to learn and grow. Caroline traveled extensively through her life and approached each new adventure with the zest, bravery, excitement, and razor sharp wit she brought to her everyday life. Caroline’s passion for books was evident through her career as a librarian at Roscommon Middle School and persisted into retirement with her work on the Friends of the Library committee. Rather than slowing down during retirement, she saw it as an opportunity to give more back to her community through volunteering wherever she may be needed. She enjoyed regular travel with her friends and her family during retirement and was able to see a good portion of the United States and Caribbean and also traveled throughout Europe with her children. She set an example to all who knew her for great friendship, fearlessness, and kindness. She always saw the best in people and exuded empathy and positivity towards all.

Caroline will be missed as a mother, a friend, and an advocate. She is survived by her son, Lars Larson of Marquette, her daughter, Erika-Ann Larson of Gaylord, and her brother Norman Simitz (Carolyn) of Walnut Creek, CA. She was known and loved as a grandma to her step grandchildren (Tallenn and Amelia). She is preceded in death by her brother Joseph (Cathy) and husband Gerald. She will be remembered with love and fondness by Gerald’s nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather for a visitation from 4:00-6:00 PM, on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at Wagner and Walsh Funeral Directors, 143 Lake Street, Roscommon, Michigan 48653. Please feel free to bring a picture, a memento, or a story to share. While we are sad she is gone we want the focus to be celebrating her life.

If so desired, the family prefers memorial contributions be made in Caroline’s name to Leader Dogs for the Blind. She regularly made contributions in the name of others who passed and would love to have her life commemorated this way.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Wagner and Walsh Funeral Directors, Roscommon.
