<p>Cleveland, Edward “Ned” on Thursday August 15, 2024. &nbsp;He was the beloved husband of Judith Cleveland (nee Schaffer), loving father of Jeffrey, Todd (Julie), and the late Andy Cleveland. Brother of Anne (the late Dennis) Eike and grandfather of Trevor, Austin, Megan, and Evan Cleveland. Ned was a longtime resident of Kirkwood.</p><p><br></p><p>Ned was born in Chicago, Illinois, the son of the late Roy and Faith Cleveland and grew up in Webster Groves. He became an Eagle Scout, graduated from Webster Groves High School and attended the University of Illinois, where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity and graduated as an electrical engineer. &nbsp;After graduation, he was commissioned as an Ensign in the Navy and service two years of sea duty on several ships, followed by eight years in the Naval Reserve. &nbsp;It was while in the service that he met Judy, who was teaching in Virginia. &nbsp;After a year of courtship, they married and moved to the St. Louis area. &nbsp;They celebrated their sixty-second anniversary recently.</p><p><br></p><p>During high school and some college years, Ned worked summers as an apprentice carpenter in the construction industry. &nbsp;Despite his technical training in electrical and computer areas, after returning from active military duty, he joined the family commercial construction business. &nbsp;Through the years that followed, he started, managed, and owned several contracting firms in the St. Louis and Kansas City area, several of which continue today. &nbsp;Later he founded and grew a building products distribution firm which operated in several states with multiple branch operations.</p><p><br></p><p>Ned was active in numerous professional, civic, church and social activities, including twelve years as a Boy Scout Scoutmaster. &nbsp;After retirement, he and Judy spent winters in Florida enjoying the weather, tennis and boating activities, which included trips to the Bahamas on their boat and an extended six-month, 6000-mile trip know as the Great Loop around the eastern half of the United States. &nbsp;They also particularly enjoyed spending time with friends at their log cabin at Coldwater.</p><p><br></p><p>Memorial service Wednesday August 21st 1:00pm </p><p>First Presbyterian Church of Kirkwood</p><p>100 E.
