<p>Gino Gennarelli, age 98, of Peoria, AZ, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2024. He was born April 14, 1926, in Cierro al Volturro, Italy, to Fillippo Gennarelli and Rosina (née Mazzocco).</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p></p><p><br></p><p>Gino left Italy and headed to America in June of 1955 when he was just 29 years old, leaving behind a wife, a 4-year-old daughter and an 11-month-old son. He didn’t have much money, but he had an unwavering work ethic and a desire to provide a better life for his family.</p><p><br></p><p></p><p><br></p><p>Once in America, he settled in Chicago Heights and Glenwood areas of Illinois and found work on a construction crew. He worked tirelessly for the next 5 years to bring his family to this country and finally succeeded in January of 1961. It was never easy, but he persevered.</p><p><br></p><p></p><p><br></p><p>Gino was a kind, caring, and selfless person who would gladly do without so the family he loved could succeed. As a result, armed with nothing more than a 6th grade education, he provided for his family for generations to come.</p><p><br></p><p></p><p><br></p><p>Gino was preceded in death by his beloved wife Fioralbina “Flora” (née Massucci) and his daughter Rita DiCarlo. He is survived by his son Phillip (Rae), his son-in-law Van (Rita), his 6 granddaughters, and his 5 great grandchildren.</p><p><br></p><p></p><p><br></p><p>A visitation will be held on August 20th at Heritage Funeral Home in Peoria, from 5-8pm with a prayer service at 6pm. Funeral services will be held on August 21st at St Thomas More in Glendale, at 10:30am, followed by entombment at Holy Redeemer Cemetery at 12:15 pm.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p>

It was with great sadness we learned of zio Ginos passing. Our family has wonderful memories of the summers together, and he will be sorely missed.
