<p>Richard Allen Haskell, Sr. 79, of Clinton, Iowa passed away at home on Wednesday, July 31, 2024. A visitation will take place from 10 to 11 am on Tuesday, August 6, at Lemke Funeral Homes – South Chapel. Following the visitation, a graveside service will occur at 11 am at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes is honored to serve the family of Richard Haskell, Sr. during this difficult time. </p><p><br></p><p>Richard was born September 4, 1944 in Centerville, Iowa to Elmer and Thelma (Cutler) Haskell. He was a graduate of Bloomfield High School. Richard married the love of his life (Judy Wallace) on July 18, 1971; they had just celebrated their 53rd anniversary before Richard’s untimely passing.</p><p><br></p><p>Richard, a patriot through and through, was proud to have served his country in the US Army; he was a Vietnam War veteran. He was often seen handing out red poppies on National Poppy Day at Jewel-Osco or at Hy-Vee selling fund raising tickets to support the American Legion.</p><p><br></p><p>Richard retired as a lab technician for the current Lyondell after a span of 35 years at that location. Richard loved the outdoors, especially camping. He also enjoyed working on puzzles and telling his famous “dad” jokes. Richard never left the house without a pocket full of Werther’s Original Candies and would share those treats with the community during his daily travels – he was affectionately known by many in the community as the "Candy Man.” </p><p><br></p><p>Above all, Richard loved his family. He will be incredibly missed by all.</p><p><br></p><p>Richard is survived by his wife, Judy, of Clinton; six children, including Connie Haskell of Indianola, IA; Allan Haskell of Los Angeles, CA; Richard Jr. (Krystal) Haskell of Clinton, Shannon Haskell of Byron, GA; Shane (Tonya) Haskell of Clinton and Chad (Ashley) Haskell of Norwalk, IA; with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also, siblings Gene Haskell, Shirley Bishop, Deanna (Jim) Nicholi, Jack (Elizabeth) Haskell; with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.</p><p><br></p><p>Richard was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters (Mary, Rose and Donna) and one brother (David).</p><p><br></p><p>The family requests that you remember Richard’s joy and his love for his family, community and country. The family will use any received memorial donations to support his much-loved wife, Judy.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p>
