David Hancock Hill died unexpectedly in his home at Ann Arbor, Michigan on July 31, 2024, after a courageous four-year battle with chronic illness.

David was born August 13, 1971 to Steven L. Hill and Susan J. Hill in Port Huron, Michigan. In his youth, he spent his summers playing baseball and golf and spending hours with his friends and family in the backyard swimming pool. During the winters, he played travel hockey.

David graduated from Port Huron Northern High School in 1988 and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Central Michigan University in 1993. Upon graduation, he was employed by Covansys, Inc. in Farmington Hills, Michigan, where he worked as a programmer analyst and was relocated to Salem, Oregon for a year-long project as a Designer/Analyst for the State of Oregon’s Child Support Enforcement Automated System. He accepted a position with The Medstat Group, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in 1996 as a Programmer Analyst, was promoted to Team Lead in 1999, and was the recipient of the “Technical Excellence-Core Skill Award” in 2000. In May, 2000, David left Medstat to pursue an MBA Degree at the University of Georgia, during which time he was employed as a Graduate Assistant, earning his MBA in May, 2001. Upon graduation, David was employed as a business analyst in Okemos, Michigan, before being lured back by his former employer in Ann Arbor, Michigan, then known as Truven Health Analytics. The company was acquired and rebranded several times during David’s tenure, finally becoming IBM, where he continued to work in multiple leadership capacities until his illness caused him to retire in May 2022.

David was a huge fan of the University of Georgia Bulldogs football team, the Detroit Lions (holding season tickets for several years), and the Detroit Red Wings. He loved the game of golf and his golfing buddies from IBM. He was a serious and inventive thinker; he led a frugal lifestyle but loved to grill a rare steak on the grill for himself and friends and family; he was a gentle soul, kind and friendly, never mean. He was quick-witted and funny, with a smirk that knew the laugh was coming. He cared deeply for his entire family and relished time with his three brothers, all of whom he was able to get together with for a several day reunion in Las Vegas last spring.

David was predeceased by his grandparents, Kenneth R. and Barbara J. Hill and Veto and Mary Jane Pesano. He is survived by his father and stepmother, Steven L. and Julie B. Hill of Port Huron, Michigan, and his mother and stepfather, Susan J. Hill and Dennis Warren, of Shelby Township, Michigan; his brothers, Mark L. (Patricia) Hill of Broomfield, Colorado, Steven A. (Eva) Hill of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Eric C.
