<p>James Ray McCreary, Jr., 80, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, in Gautier, MS. He was born on January 9, 1944, to the late James Ray McCreary, Sr., and Ruthie Lee Crabb McCreary in Booneville, MS.</p><p>He graduated from Moss Point High School and faithfully served his country in the United States Army. Together he and his beloved wife, Shirley, successfully owned and operated J & R Electric Service for over 30 years. James enjoyed hunting, fishing, gaming, and coaching a variety of sports. He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan, but loved his New Orleans Saints and was also a big Mississippi State University fan. Go Dawgs! Though his absence will be deeply felt by his family, they find comfort in knowing that he is reunited with his best friend and wife, Shirley.</p><p>In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Moreno McCreary, his brothers, Ray Jones, David McCreary, and Michael McCreary, and his sisters, Rita Westmoreland, Rebecca Moreno, and Lucianna Moreno.</p><p>He is survived by his daughter, Missy (Shannon) Crane; sons, James Ray (Heather) McCreary, III, and Adrian (Belinda) McCreary; grandsons, Chad (Whitney) McCreary, A.J. (Carrie) McCreary, Nick (Ragan) Duren, Gavin McCreary, Kyle McCreary, and Noah Crane; great-grandchildren, Dayton, Brooklyn, Odin, Madison, and Remington; siblings, William (Beverly) Jones, Judy Bryant, and Mary Lou (Terry) Lynch; goddaughter, Amanda Rodriguez; bonus grandchildren, Ashley Olinde and Kurt Olinde, Jr.; and his sweet furbaby, Mia; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.</p><p>The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Notre Dame Hospice and River Chase Village for the care and compassion they have shown Mr. James over the last several months. They would also like to thank his roommate, Mr. Bennie King, for the companionship, kindness, and comfort that he provided to him and his family during that time.</p><p>In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Gulf Coast Down Syndrome Society in James’s loving memory by visiting www.gcdss.org.</p><p>Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at Heritage Funeral Home in Moss Point, MS. Funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel beginning at 12:00 p.m. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons, Chad McCreary, A.J. McCreary, Nick Duren, Gavin McCreary, Kyle McCreary, and Noah Crane, and his nephew, Dan Moreno.</p><p>Heritage Funeral Home, locally owned and operated in Moss Point/ Escatawpa, MS, is honored to serve the family of Mr. James Ray McCreary, Jr.</p>
