<p>Jerry Lewis Champion, Jr., 57, of Bagdad, Florida passed away peacefully at his home on July 6, 2024, due to cancer.</p><p><br></p><p>Jerry was born to Jerry and Elsie Champion in 1966. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was a Correctional Officer with Escambia County Corrections since 2000. Jerry loved to write, travel, and especially loved music from the 1980s. He was passionate about Corrections and took immense pride in his work, rising to the rank of Lieutenant during his tenure with Escambia County Corrections. Jerry was also a fervent Alcatraz historian, having authored three books on the subject. Above all, however - Jerry was a dedicated and loving family man that always made time for his wife and their grandchildren.</p><p><br></p><p>Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Champion Sr., and his stepmother, Lucille.</p><p><br></p><p>Jerry is survived in death by his wife, Alma; his two children, Kenneth Nathaniel and Jennifer (Tommy) Leonard and their families; his mother, Elsie Mae Tucker, his brother, Sam (Laura) Kimmons; his sister, Patti Ann (Scott) Hice; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.</p><p><br></p><p>A Funeral Service will be held Thursday July 11, 2024, at Lewis Funeral Home Milton Chapel, 6405 Highway 90 W Milton, FL 32570, with visitation Wednesday, July 10, 2024, from 5:00-7:00pm and service Thursday at 11:00am.
