<p><br></p><p>Lawrence “Larry” E. Weaver, Jr., 98, of Decatur, IL, passed away Monday, June 24, 2024. <br></p><p>He died peacefully at his home in Primrose Retirement Center of Decatur, with his family by <br></p><p>his side. <br></p><p><br></p><p>Larry was born December 14, 1925 in Maroa, IL, the son of Lawrence, Sr. and Cora <br></p><p>Catherine (Trost) Weaver. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army, during WWII. <br></p><p>Larry married his beloved wife, Phyllis Sharlene Smith, on February 3, 1952 in Decatur, IL <br></p><p>and remained devoted to her through 67 years of marriage, until her passing on April 14, <br></p><p>2019. He was known for his kindness to others and his pride in his family. <br></p><p><br></p><p>Larry owned and operated Weaver Bros. Van &amp; Storage, Inc. for over 40 years. After <br></p><p>selling the moving company, he continued working at Miles Chevrolet, then as a bailiff for <br></p><p>the Macon County Courts, and finally at Hertz Rent a Car, working (and driving) until 95 <br></p><p>years of age. He volunteered as an election judge in Macon County and as an AARP <br></p><p>instructor, teaching a senior driving course. He served as treasurer for Arbor Trails Condo <br></p><p>Association. Larry was active in Sertoma, Kiwanis, and the Veterans Association. He was <br></p><p>a member of Macon Lodge #8 AF &amp; AM, where he had attained 32nd degree in both the <br></p><p>Scottish and York rites. Larry was a proud member of First Lutheran Church, Decatur, <br></p><p>where he served on the church council. <br></p><p><br></p><p>Larry is survived by his son, David Lawrence Weaver and wife Anne, of Emerald Hills, <br></p><p>California; daughter, Carol Elaine (Weaver) van Seumeren and husband Henri, of The <br></p><p>Netherlands; grandchildren Megan Weaver, Krista Weaver, Mattheus van Seumeren, and <br></p><p>Theresa Blackman and husband Rupert; great-grandchildren Elliott and Isabella Blackman; <br></p><p>nephew Larry Schultz and wife Annette, of Bloomington; and nephew Randal Smith and <br></p><p>husband Joe Torres, of Taylorville. <br></p><p><br></p><p>Larry was preceded in death by his parents; wife Sharlene; and sister Charlotte E. Kleine.<br></p><p><br></p><p>A Visitation will be held at First Lutheran Church, 250 West Decatur St., Decatur, at 8:30am <br></p><p>Sunday, July 28, followed by a Memorial service (as part of the church service) at 9:30am. <br></p><p>Graveside services will be held at 12:30pm, in Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown, IL. <br></p><p>Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church, Decatur, IL. </p>
