<p><p>Hal Chris Young, of Stevens Point, passed away at Aspirus Wausau Hospital in the Palliative Care unit from a brief illness on June 21, 2024, at the age of 71, surrounded by his loving wife and family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.</p><p><br></p><p>Hal was born September 15, 1952, in Madison, WI; son of the late Bernard and Helen (Anderson) Young. He graduated high school in Madison, WI. He went on to attend UWSP, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work. He served in the U.S. Army for 3 years, stationed in Germany, from January 1976 to December 1978. He worked for numerous restaurant including Holiday Inn and Wisconsin River Country Club. He worked in the oil fields in Wyoming as well as the paper mill, Kimberly Clark. He retired in 2021 from the Stevens Point Post Office where he was employed for 20 years. Hal was a member of the 12 Apostles Musky Club.</p><p><br></p><p>More than anything, Hal was a devoted husband to Audrey Gawlik, the love of his life for 34 years. On March 7, 2009, the two were married and she became Mrs. Audrey Young. Together they traveled and loved going camping in the Upper Peninsula. They would take long rides in the country and liked trying new restaurants to eat lunch at. Hal loved fishing for musky, bass, and walleye. You could find him making musky lures, carving walking sticks, and wood burning plaques, coasters, etc. He loved playing his guitars daily.</p><p><br></p><p>Hal loved his wife and family deeply and loved playing with his grandkids; joking and laughing with his older grandkids and family. He always thought of others before himself. He had a life long passion for knowledge. Hal was a sensitive, caring, supportive, affectionate, handsome, and dependable husband.</p><p><br></p><p>Hal is survived by his beloved wife, Audrey; his sons, Justin Young of New York and Daniel (Renee) Faust of Stevens Point; his daughter, Michelle (Buddy) Karpinski of Stevens Point; his grandchildren, Tyler (Jessica) Faust, Amanda Makuski, Caitlin Peterson, Jonathan Faust, Brittany Karpinski, Alex Karpinski, and Linsey Faust; and 11 great-grandchildren, Emma, Sophia, Alia, Hayden, Elizabeth, Ryleigh, Abigail, Ila, Oaklynn, Brycen, and Laynee. He is further survived by a sister, BeaJay (Fred) Panke.</p><p><br></p><p>Hal was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Helen; and his father and mother-in-law, Alex and Theresa (Koback) Gawlik.</p><p><br></p><p>A funeral service will be held in Hal's memory at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at Shuda Funeral Home - 3200 Stanley Street, Stevens Point, WI. Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM and again on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Burial will follow at Guardian Angel Cemetery in Stevens Point with full military honors. </p></p>
