Charles Patrick (“Pat”) Dugan Obituary

Sometimes a man comes along who leaves such a legacy and a void that neither can be filled. Pat Dugan was that man. He was most proud of three things: His combat United States Marine service in Vietnam; his ability later as a principal, teacher and mentor to so many young people who went on to be very successful adults and without him, might not otherwise; and the fact that he never lost a fight, whether it be a boxing match, Judo match, heavyweight-lifter champion, bar fight or just a fight defending someone else. He was a man who demanded and always got everyone’s respect. He had many loves including animals of all kinds. He would say, “There’s always room for one more.”

He had a large extended family. Daughters, Cathey Rose Dugan, Cayton Janner, Carlyn Pfeiffer (Mike) and son, Miguel Cedillo (Janie); stepdaughters, Mary Ellen Allen (Scott), Beth Sims (Marcus), Michael Lindsey (Renee) and Stephen Lindsey (deceased). He played such a major part of all of their lives and he loved them all so much. His wife of 43 years, Phyllis Dugan, preceded him in death. He also had 10 grandchildren.

Pat is survived by his wife, Marilyn, who he always referred to as “My precious Marilyn.” Pat was such a strong believer in God and he and Marilyn spent much time researching and studying the Bible.

Pat’s heart was big enough to love us all so much. Some very special people in his life must be thanked for being so loyal to him and the love he had for them: James Fernandez, Barri Sorrell, Bruce and Veronica Wilson, Dave Wilson, Mario Chavira, Jaime Guerra, D’Wayne Jernigan and Sylvia Martinez, who took such good care of both of us, our house and our animals. Thank you to Sheriff Joe Frank Martinez for the wonderful escort.

Pallbearers: Chris Villarreal, Amando Garcia, Robert Guzman, Celso Barrientos, Michael Jimenez and Miguel Ibarra.

Honorary pallbearer: Master gunnery sergeant E-9 USMC retired, Ruben Gutierrez, who is responsible for putting Pat in his beloved Marine Corp.

As difficult as it is to lose such an amazing man, God must’ve needed another Marine to guard the gates of Heaven. Pat is truly missed and has left a void that cannot be filled.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to Friends of Del Rio Animals, P.O. Box 422072, Del Rio, TX 78842, phone: 830-734-0500.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 23, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home.

A Chapel service will be held on Monday, June 24, 2024 at 9:15 AM at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home with Rev. John Cary officiating.

Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
