Susan Arlene Herbert

Susan Arlene Herbert, 78, died on June 5, 2024 in College Place, Washington. She was born to Richard Blake and Rosalee Lown in Long Beach, California. Sue graduated from Wilson High School and attended college for a year. She moved from Long Beach to Athena, Oregon in 1972 then shortly after on to Milton-Freewater. She married the love of her life George Herbert on August 5, 1977 in Reno, Nevada. In 2015, Sue and George moved from Milton-Freewater to College Place where they have resided ever since.

Sue was a loving wife and mother. Always encouraging and supporting her husband George, son Steven, and daughter Aimee in their endeavors. She was a kind, caring, loving neighbor, cherished by her friends and community members. When she heard someone was in need, had a problem or just needed a hug or smile, she was there for them.

She was an avid crafter, as a result, family, friends and members in the community would see little surprises in cards, their gardens, handed to them or hidden to be surprised when found. She absolutely loved hiding her work around the neighborhood and around town to give people joy. She never forgot a birthday, anniversary or special event.

Sue was a very educated, knowledgeable woman. She would help people out from her experiences or if she didn't know she would tell them how they could find information on the subject. Sue used all her talents to help others through stressful situations.

Crocheting, sketching, painting and sewing were some of her other passions. In between doing those things she helped her husband George in their Professional Photography Business for many years and lately in his Personal Winery Tours business, for the past 9 years.

At the time of passing, she was retired, but prior to retiring she worked for 20 years as an Insurance Administrator at a local processing company.

Sue embodied warmth and compassion, and was a beacon of light in the lives of all who knew her. Her absence leaves a profound void in the hearts of those she touched. Yet, it's George who feels her absence most acutely, as they shared a bond that spanned nearly five decades. For 48 years, they journeyed through life together, weaving memories that shimmer with laughter and love. Their travels, cherished moments, and quiet joys were all shared, each memory a testament to their enduring connection. George now faces a world that feels a little colder, a little lonelier, without his beloved Sue by his side.

Sue is survived by her beloved husband George Herbert, her daughter Aimee Grabau, and her son Steven. She is preceded in death by her sister Patty and her brother Jeff Lown.
