Beard Award for his years of service and the connection between Masons and Scouting. Don also received a Youngsville Community Service Award. He went on to serve the community for many years after retirement by serving with Meals on Wheels.

He was a long-time, active member of the Irvine Presbyterian Church, having grown up in Irvine and served as an elder.
