Tyler Brent Sherrard

Tyler Brent Sherrard, a beloved son, brother, and friend, passed away on May 30, 2024, at Children’s National Medical Center in D.C. Born on November 28, 2007, he was the cherished son of Brent Farrel Sherrard and Kelley Marie Sherrard of Hedgesville, WV.

Tyler attended Musselman High School and was expected to graduate in 2026. Tyler loved history and science, but not so much math. He was contemplating a future in the medical field to study cancer research or treatment, or something involving cancer, to help others.

He had a great sense of humor and a passion for storyline gaming and truly spending time at home, laughing and just being with his brother, sisters, mom and dad, and pets. There was always a story he had to share about what video game he was playing and what the next meal his mom could make. Tyler looked up to his older siblings, respected them, loved them, and wanted to use them as role models to be a great brother to his younger sister.

Tyler hated cancer and did not want anyone to know about the battle he was fighting, but he was finding his voice and working to be comfortable in sharing with others about his journey through leukemia, especially over this last year. Sadly, and with a heavy heart, Tyler lost his chance to finish his 3-year ongoing battle against leukemia. Cancer didn’t win this time, but unfortunately, Tyler was taken out of the fight that he was so ready to conquer due to spiraling complications from an infection and persistent fever. Tyler was not going to let his cancer beat him. Tyler was going to be hope and a symbol of perseverance to others.

Tyler is survived and deeply missed by his loving parents, Brent and Kelley Sherrard, his brother and best friend, Eddie Sherrard, and his sisters, Hannah Daly, and Emma Sherrard. He also leaves behind his paternal grandmother, Margaret Sherrard, a close-knit family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

A private celebration of life will be held in honor of him on June 29, 2024.

Tyler’s legacy of the kind, simple, humble, and lovable fighter that he was will continue to inspire those who knew him. As we say goodbye to this remarkable young man, let us carry forward the light he brought into our lives.
