<p>Elizabeth Cherry Swindler, 98, of Louisville, passed away on Saturday, March 2nd, 2024.</p><p><br></p><p>She was predeceased by husband of 70 years, Herbert Kennedy Swindler, and brothers, Clarence Cherry and Richard Cherry; and sisters, Wilma Richey and Bernice Cherry.</p><p><br></p><p>Elizabeth was born in Louisville, Kentucky on December 8th, 1925. She graduated from Valley High School in 1943 and attended Wittenberg College in Springfield, OH, where she was a member of Chi Omega Fraternity.</p><p><br></p><p>She graduated from Nazareth College with a degree in Home Economics.</p><p><br></p><p>Always a teacher, she touched many lives teaching at Valley Elementary School and Jesse Stuart Middle School. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma honorary society.</p><p><br></p><p>Elizabeth was an avid golfer and played until she was 85. She served as president of the Ladies Falls City Golf Association, played duplicate bridge and was a Life Master of the American Contract Bridge League.</p><p><br></p><p>She was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Valley Station where she served as Chairman of the Board and was involved in the children's ministry.</p><p><br></p><p>Elizabeth was most currently a member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Comrade Sunday School class and United Methodist Women.</p><p><br></p><p>She was well-known for her baking, especially chocolate chip cookies and Italian Cream Cake, fabulous meals and generous hospitality.</p><p><br></p><p>She is survived by daughters, Dr. Susan Lyle (Michael) and Rev. Rebecca Curry (Ken); grandchildren , Rev. Dr. Mary Beth Bernheisel (Jay), Michael Curry (Lynsey), and David Curry (Amanda); great-grandchildren, Joshua and Clare Bernheisel; Cooper, Eva, Christopher, and Kennedy Curry; and many nieces and nephews.</p><p><br></p><p>Visitation will be Friday, March 8th, 3 pm - 7 pm, at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road; and Saturday, 10 am - 11am, at St. Matthews United Methodist Church, 319 Browns Land, Louisville, KY 40207. Her funeral service will be held at 11 am at the Church on Saturday. There will be a private family burial.</p><p><br></p><p>Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Matthews United Methodist Church, or Grace Kids: A Church for Children, 919 Palatka Rd, Louisville, KY 40214.</p>
