Billy Jean Bracken
<p>Billy J. Bracken passed away at the Tonganoxie Terrace Nursing home, Tonganoxie, KS. on Sept. 8th, 2023 at the age of 91. He had been in ill health and in nursing facilities since March 2023. Bill was born on February 3, 1932 in Independence, KS to Gib and Marie Bracken. His early childhood was spent in Illinois, then Washington where his Father worked in the shipyards during WWII. The Brackens then moved back to Sycamore, KS where Bill went to Elementary School then High School and Junior College in Independence.</p><p>Bill was a Seargent in the army for 4 years and served one tour in Korea, as a communication specialist. In 1956 after the army he moved to California and started a career in office machine repair. He moved to LaSalle, Colorado in 1979 and lived there and worked in Greeley until he was 65. At 65 he took a job in assembling electrical test equipment in Fort Collins, Co and he worked there until he was 85</p><p>Bill was a lifelong bachelor. He was preceded in death by his Father and Mother, a brother, Larry Kent, who passed away at birth, and a nephew Doug Bracken of Greeley. He is survived by 2 brothers, Gary (Maxine) Bracken of Evans, Co. and, Lyle (Sharon) Bracken of Bonner Springs, KS Niece Jenna Langvardt (Mitch), Nephews Greg Bracken (Roxie), Mickey Bracken and Matt Bracken (Jenn), and numerous Great and Great-Great Nieces & Nephews.</p><p>Bill loved to travel and made lots of trips both in his car and with tour groups. One of his last great trips was when he and Gary flew to Washington DC on an Honor Flight. He never missed a family reunion or event. </p><p>Bill was a collector of several keepsakes and enjoyed working with several hobbies such as model airplanes and cars. He was also a voracious photographer. </p><p>A family graveside service will be held later at a time to be determined. He will be interred in Mount Hope Cemetery, Independence, KS near his parents and grandparents.</p><p><br></p>February 3, 1932 - September 8, 202302/03/193209/08/2023
