<p>張楊明德博士 (張少亞之夫人,奧凡、奧人、奧雲之令堂) ,湖南省人氏,於二零二三年八月二十三日與世長辭,享壽七十歲。追悼儀式定於九月六日 (星期三) 下午三時至六時在全福殯儀館舉行,不克參加追悼儀式的親友可在九月七日(星期四)上午八時至十時瞻仰儀容, 當天十時正出殯移靈皇后區聖米高火葬場舉行火化。<br></p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p>Dr. Ming-Der Y Chang passed away peacefully on August 23, 2023 at the age of 70. Dr. Chang was born on November 5, 1952 in Taiwan. She is survived by her loving husband; Henry Chang, son; Gregory, daughter; Caroline, Diana and 2 grandchildren.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p>Dr. Ming-der Chang was a devoted mother, wife, sister, leader and community advocate. She passed away on Wednesday August 23, 2023 surrounded by her family.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p>Ming-der was born on November 5, 1952 in Taipei, Taiwan. Her father was a Taiwanese government official, born in Hunan Province and raised in Guangdong Province. Her mother was an elementary school teacher from Hubei Province. She was the eldest of three children: Agnes and Roddy. Roddy sadly passed in 2020.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p>As a teenager, Ming-der attended the prestigious Taipei First Girls' High School, where she excelled in biology and chemistry. But more importantly, she developed a close connection to all her classmates, building friendships which lasted over 50 years. She was forever proud to be known as a 北一女 for life.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p>From high school, Ming-der attended the National Taiwan University, where she earned a B.A. in Agricultural Chemistry. She received her doctorate in Chemistry from Columbia University. While at Columbia, Ming-der met Henry, the one love of her life. The two married in 1976 and together they had four children: Christopher, Gregory, Caroline, and Diana. Chris passed in 2014 due to complications from cerebral palsy. During her post-doctoral fellowship at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, she was mentored by Dr. Betty Diamond, who had a lasting impact on Ming-der’s career path. Like her mentor, Ming-der became a strong, tough, and smart woman who could do everything. Ming-der was also an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at New York University Medical College, where she performed analysis of anti-tumor immune responses in ovarian cancer and leukemia patients.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p>In 1990, Ming-der moved to North Shore University Hospital in Long Island. During that time, she became Director of the Laboratory of Developmental Immunology, directing all aspects of lab operation and funding. From 2000-2014, Ming-der moved away from the lab and focused on outreach to Asian communities and improving access to medical care. She served as the Vice President of Asian Initiatives for the American Cancer Society (ACS) Eastern Division. She spent the latter part of her career spearheading the Community Health Initiative program at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens, providing easy access to high quality linguistically and culturally appropriate in-patient and outpatient care for the diverse community in the Queens area.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p>During her spare time, Ming-der was an active community advocate and champion for the Chinese-American and Asian American communities. She was a principal at a local Chinese school, helped found the Great Neck Chinese Association, and was an active member on multiple boards and medical societies. Ming-der was an Honorary Member of the Chinese American Medical Society (CAMS), and was a recipient of the "2009 New York State Women of Excellence Award." In her later years, Ming-der renewed her passion for dancing, quickly picking up ballet and pointe before pivoting to competitive ballroom dancing. Ming-der and Henry spent their remaining years together traveling the world and visiting their grandkids, while continuing to remain active in the community.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p>Memorial service for Dr. Ming-Der Y Chang will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 from 3 - 6 PM and visitation will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2023 from 8 - 10AM at Chun Fook Funeral Services, LLC in Flushing NY. The funeral procession will begin on Thursday, September 7 at 10 AM. The cremation will take place at St. Michael's All Souls Crematory in East Elmhurst, NY.
