<p>It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Janet Gillett Weiland (MacLennan), RN, on Sunday, February 19, 2023. </p><p><br></p><p>Born in South Bar, NS, on November 25, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Rod and Gladys (Vatcher) MacLennan. </p><p><br></p><p>Janet was predeceased by her loving husband, Peter Gillett; second husband, Chuck Weiland; and brother, Ward (Louise) MacLennan.</p><p><br></p><p>She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth (Edwin) Tolan, Sydney; sons, David Gillett, Las Vegas and Gregory Gillett, Ohio; daughter, Patricia Crane (Gary), Virginia; grandson, Benjamin Crane; granddaughter, Rachel Crane; and many nieces and nephews.</p><p><br></p><p>In 1956, Janet graduated from the Glace Bay Hospital School of Nursing. Upon graduating, she moved to Illinois to start her career as a Registered Nurse where she met Peter, married and began their family. Janet later relocated to Ohio before moving back to Cape Breton in 1988. Since returning to Cape Breton, she worked at the Northside Community Guest Home (1990-1996), was active in Trinity United Church, and volunteered at Loaves and Fishes and the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.</p><p><br></p><p>Janet loved to travel and spend time with her grandchildren in the United States. Many hours were spent in the kitchen baking with Ben and Rachel.</p><p><br></p><p>Janet's last years have been living at My Cape Breton Home for Seniors (2016-2023) before her passing in the Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. </p><p><br></p><p>The family would like to express their thanks to the staff at My Cape Breton Home for Seniors for all the years of wonderful care she received. Also, thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff in the An Cala Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.</p><p><br></p><p>A memorial service to celebrate the life of our dear mother and grandmother will be held in Sydney Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, August 1st at 2 p.m. with Jane Keller, L.L.W.L. officiating.
