<p><p>Mr. James R. “Jamie” Sims, 48, of Oneida, Illinois died 9:13 a.m. Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, Illinois.</p><br> <p>He was born August 29, 1974, in Kewanee, Illinois to Joseph J. and Catherine (Wagner) Sims, Sr. He married Jana Kutkat, December 30, 1995, in Galesburg. </p><br> <p>Surviving is his mother, Cathy Sims Peterson of Oneida, a daughter, Abby Sims of Galesburg, two brothers, Joseph (and Meleiah) Sims, Jr. of Galesburg and Richard (and Kimberly) Sims of Alpha, Illinois, a sister, Angela Hunt of Cookeville, Tennessee, a stepbrother, Michael Peterson of Asheville, North Carolina, an uncle, Martin Wagner of Oneida, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph J. Sims, Sr., a stepfather, Kenneth R. Peterson, and a brother-in-law, Daniel Hunt. </p><br> <p>Jamie graduated from ROWVA High School in 1993. He was an engineer for Burlington Northern/ Santa Fe Railroad for over 28 years. He attended United Church of Oneida. He served on the board of the Railroad Museum and was a member of the Brotherhood Locomotive Engineer Trainmen Union. Jamie was an avid drummer and a fan of Neil Peart, the drummer from Rush. He loved listening to music, especially Elvis Presley, working on his landscaping in the yard, and was very proud of his light display. He was a fan of the Chicago Blackhawks. He enjoyed driving around town in his convertible or his scooter or just hanging out with his friends at the local restaurant in Knoxville. Those who knew Jamie will always remember his quirky sense of humor. Jamie was a tissue donor, enhancing and saving other people’s lives. </p><br> <p>Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service Galesburg Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. at the chapel. Rev. Linda Baldwin will officiate. Cremation will follow the funeral. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
