<p>MacLean, Alexander Hector "Alex John Y" - of West Alba passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at the age of 86, in Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney. </p><p><br></p><p>He is survived by his wife, Joan (Kennedy); children Jessie Moore (Danny) - Whycocomagh, John MacLean (Mary) , Ottawa Brook; Kathleen MacLean ,Ottawa, Ont.; Allister MacLean, West Alba; Irene MacKinnon (Lorrie), West Alba; Carolyn MacLean-Leeks (Eric), Medicine Hat, AB; Bill MacLean, West Alba and Jim MacLean (Cheryl) , Amherst; grandchildren , Breagh MacLean, Lorraine Moore, Johnnie MacLean, John Bennett, Sandy MacKinnon, Tyler MacKinnon, Devin Leeks, Erika Scott, Katrina MacLean and Dylan MacLean; great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Ryan and Breton MacNeil, Talon Palech, Alyssa and Ashlyn Moore, Lauchlan MacLean, Evan and Tinsley Bennett. He is survived by brothers, Nelson (Shirley) MacLean, Edmond (Doris) MacLean and Ralph (Flossie) MacLean along with numerous nieces and nephews.</p><p><br></p><p>Born in Gillis Cove, Alex was predeceased by his parents John Y. and Cassie MacLean. He is also predeceased by his sisters, Hughena MacLean, Kaye MacNeil and Annie Mae MacLean along with his brothers, Clarence MacLean, Danny MacLean, Willie MacLean and Freddie MacLean.</p><p><br></p><p>Alex enjoyed fishing, building boats and wood working. He could often be found parked under the big tree or playing crib. "Grandpa Hawkeye’s" true passion was seeing his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved spending time with them. He will be truly missed by them and all those who knew him. </p><p><br></p><p>A graveside funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 23 at 3:00pm in the Malagawatch Cemetery with Rev. Andrew MacDonald officiating. There will be a reception following the service at the Valley Mills Fire Hall. Donations may be made to the Malagawatch Cemetery Association. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh.
