Frederick F. Seymour, Jr.
<p>Frederick F. Seymour, Jr., 91, of Pittsfield, passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2022, at Mt. Greylock Extended Care, surrounded by family.</p><p><br></p><p>Fred was born in Lowell, Mass. on December 28, 1930 to the late Frederick F. Seymour, Sr. and Mary Carver Seymour. He graduated from Lowell High School in 1948 and was employed in the Boot Mills in Lowell following high school.</p><p><br></p><p>A Korean War veteran, Mr. Seymour enlisted with the United States Army in 1952. He was assigned to the Army Security Agency and served in Japan. He was honorable discharged in 1954 having earned the rank of Sergeant. </p><p><br></p><p>Following military service, Fred continued his education and was a 1959 graduate of Lowell Technological Institute, now U-Mass Lowell. After college, he was employed at Erving Paper Mills. </p><p><br></p><p>He moved to Pittsfield in 1962 and was employed in sales at Jones Division, Beloit Corporation. He then transferred to Jacksonville, Florida where he worked from 1968 to 1975. He returned to Dalton as an account manager in northeast, from where he retired in 1994.</p><p><br></p><p>Mr. Seymour was a member of the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry serving as treasurer of the Berkshire Division. He was also an RSVP volunteer for the Blind and Dyslexic and the Pittsfield Visitors Center, and a member of the American Legion.</p><p><br></p><p>He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. He had been a member of the former St. Teresa Parish where he served on the CCD Board, Lector, Parish Council, and Finance Committee. </p><p><br></p><p>He enjoyed dancing, playing the organ, crossword puzzles, and was a loyal Patriots fan. He especially enjoyed attending his grandsons’ sports games through the years.</p><p><br></p><p>Mr. Seymour is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joanne M. Mermet Seymour. He is also survived by his two daughters, Paula Farr (husband Tim) of Matteson, Il., and grandson, Timothy; daughter, Lisa Astle (husband Richard) and grandsons, Thomas and Richard of Pittsfield; three nephews; a cousin, Barbara Marvel; and a sister-in-law, Susan Mermet. </p><p><br></p><p>He will be sadly missed as a husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many.</p><p><br></p><p>He was pre-deceased by his first wife, Donna Gallego Seymour and his brother, Edward Seymour. </p><p><br></p><p>The family wishes to acknowledge with heartfelt thanks the care and kindness given to Mr. Seymour by the nursing staff of the North Unit at Mt. Greylock Extended Care. </p><p><br></p><p>FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Frederick F. Seymour, Jr. will be held Friday, September 30, 2022, at 1:00 p.m., at Sacred Heart Church celebrated by Rev. Steven G. Montesanti, Pastor. Entombment will follow at St. Michael the Archangel Mausoleum. </p><p><br></p><p>Calling hours will be Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at DERY FUNERAL HOME.
