Harry Grant Abrahamson, 80, of Barrington, IL passed away unexpectedly and peacefully in Highland Park Hospital on Wednesday, June 22, 2022.

Grant was a beloved husband and father. He is survived by his wife Cheryl Feil Abrahamson and his children, Elizabeth and Eric. Dear brother to Christina (David) Reynolds, the late William (Sheila) and uncle to many nieces and nephews.

He was born in Chicago, Illinois, grew up in Deerfield and graduated from Highland Park High School. Nicknamed ‘Bro’ as a child, he survived a life-threatening accident at 9 years old. His extended recovery time fostered his tenacity, an ability to build things and a passion for learning. Active in sports, Grant played football, basketball, and baseball, earning high school letters, and making lifelong friends along the way.

After graduating from Lake Forest College, Grant’s career in manufacturing enabled he and his family to travel across the United States. They relocated frequently and lived in Michigan, Ohio, Missouri, and Florida before returning to Illinois in 1983 when they settled in Barrington. After leadership roles at Continental Can Company, Boise Cascade, International Paper, and Victory Envelope, Grant continued working as a consultant, sharing his expertise in operational excellence. He enjoyed working and considered himself fortunate to have colleagues who became friends.

Grant will be remembered for his generosity, intelligence, optimism, and humor. He was a voracious reader (non-fiction only!) and student of American history. During family trips, he’d share stories of a significant battle or event that happened in the area. An avid sportsman, Grant cherished time outdoors with his family and friends. He created a lifetime of memories, filled with annual hunting trips in Galena, fly fishing on the streams from Massachusetts to Montana, and cheering on Notre Dame football and the Chicago Cubs. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

In keeping with Grant’s wishes, a private ceremony will be held in Yellowstone National Park at a future date.
