Roshan Lal Aggarwal<br><br>Of Salala, Punjab, India, and Burlington, Massachusetts, USA, died peacefully on January 21, 2022.<br><br>Roshan was born at home on July 9, 1936, in the small village of Salala, Punjab, India, to Leela Vati and Chet Ram Aggarwal. He and Pushap Lata Aggarwal were married in 1958; they had two sons, Rajesh and Achal.<br><br>Roshan was a physicist. His education began in his hometown of Salala, and then across several towns as he sought higher levels of education not available in his village. He remembered well and had deep gratitude for the many teachers and others who helped him along the way; in his later years, he established teaching awards at Punjab Academy of Sciences in India and at Burlington High School in Massachusetts. Eventually, Roshan received his Ph.D. in Physics from Purdue University. He spent the next fifty years with MIT, first with the Department of Physics, then with the Francis Bitter National Magnet Laboratory, where he was an Associate Director, and finally with Lincoln Labs. An accomplished physicist, he authored hundreds of journal papers, technical reports, and other publications. It was both the work and the people that Roshan loved – he counted his colleagues among his closest friends.<br><br>In his 85 years, Roshan lived a life without regret. He did what he loved and had an abiding, inherent respect for all people. A person at peace and without complaint, he had simple needs and wants, good intentions, and lived humbly. The eldest in a large and sprawling family, Roshan set an example and an environment of love, respect, confidence, and trust. He encouraged everyone to live life on their own terms, and he found his greatest joy in watching his siblings, children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews find their own, unique paths through life. Roshan’s family is grateful for the life he had and that he was a part of their lives. He will remain an inspiration.
