Dorothy "Jean" DeAngelis

From her home of 65 years in Stratford, New Jersey, Jean DeAngelis asks a family member to help her get dressed so that she can help serve the guests who had arrived. For once though, those guests had arrived to serve her. Dorothy "Jean" DeAngelis was called home to the Lord on Sunday, March 28th, 2021 from her home in Stratford, New Jersey. Even into the last of her 93 years, she was a sharp, joyful and lovingly stubborn Mother and Grandmother. Growing up in a humble, Christian family in Lindenwold, Jean dreamed of becoming an elementary school teacher. As a young woman, a close friend's brother caught her eye as he was reading the newspaper. Jean asked her about him and was told "Tovey doesn't date." That same Tovey would eventually become her loving and adoring husband. Jean told stories about working at the Campbell Soup company early on in her marriage. But soon those long days at work turned into full days at home with her first son David, followed up later by Steven and Linda. Motherhood was a true calling for Jean and she took pride in passing down her disciplined lifestyle and God-fearing ethical devotion. A childhood friend of Steve and Dave recalls a daily dirt fight in the field behind her house. Spotting them from the window, Jean would open the porch door and yell, "Stop throwing those dirt bombs!" Her voice was memorable and echoes still in the hymns she would sing to her grandchildren ("Here I am Lord"), as well as in the persistent pleas to close that same porch door to keep out the squirrels. One grandchild described a visit to Grandmom's house as a guaranteed back scratch session, and another learned to say yes to SOMETHING before she offered you every possible edible item in the house. With her passing at Easter, all her grandchildren are reminded of her legendary Easter egg hunts, and warm holiday celebrations for the family. Preceded by the death of Tovey, Dave and Kelsey, Jean lives on through Floss DeAngelis, Steve (Julie) DeAngelis, and Linda (Bruce) Thompson. She is also survived by six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing and visitation this Thursday, 9:30 to 11am at EUGENE J. ZALE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 712 NO. WHITE HORSE PIKE, STRATFORD, NJ PH: 856-783-5100. Funeral service at 11am followed by interment at Erial Community Church Cemetery, Erial, NJ. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
