DUNKI, Glen Leroy, November 13, 1937 - April 27, 2010 - On April 27, 2010, in the VON Sakura House Hospice, Woodstock, quietly and peacefully, Glen Leroy Dunki of Edmonton, Alberta, passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Glen has been set free to once again be with his loving wife Jeannie (nee Freebury), who passed away four years ago and was the love of his life. Glen will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his children Susan George (Bill) of Woodstock, Margo Lloyd (Dave Barnes) of Edmonton, Jim Dunki (Colleen) of Edmonton; grandchildren Tyler, Bryan, Stephanie, Samantha, Simeon, Kal, step grandchildren Kurtis and Taylor, as well as his relatives, friends, long time neighbours, and coffee buddies at A&W. Glen was born and raised on a farm in Tofield, Alberta, predeceased by his parents; Verena (nee Phillip) and Jim (Jakob) Dunki; and survived by his sister Isabelle (Ed) and brother Bill (Maria). Glen worked as an electrician in his early adult years which was when he met his wife Jean, who worked as a nurse in the Tofield Hospital. For several years, Glen worked in the insurance business, then resumed working in the electrical trade for the Provincial Government Law Courts Buildings and in the last few years before retirement on June 30, 1993, Glen worked as Building Superintendent of the Edmonton Remand Centre, Alberta School for the Deaf and the Jubilee Auditorium. Over many of these years and into some of his retirement years, Glen and Jean, along with his siblings and their spouses, worked on the family farm. Glen was a very private man that quietly touched the lives of those that he knew. He had strong family values, was always willing to lend a big helping hand and could be counted on no matter what the situation. Throughout his life, Glen loved being outdoors (camping, fishing, hunting, gardening, and of course farming) as well as playing and watching many different sports. In his retirement years, he especially found great enjoyment in watching the grandchildren, step grandchildren and even the children who played soccer indoors and out, year round. The family wishes to thank Dad's long-time General Practitioner, Dr. Maguire; Dr. Venner and his Staff of the Cross Cancer Institute; Drs. Amigo, Fainsinger and their Colleagues, along with all the Staff and Volunteers of the Grey Nuns Palliative Care Unit (Unit 43) and Kelli and Helen with Air Ambulance Providers. They also wish to thank Dr. Nichols and Staff at the Woodstock General Hospital Palliative Care Unit and finally a very special thanks to Dr. Fryer and Dr. Sondhi and all the Staff and Volunteers at the VON Sakura House Hospice, where Glen was able to spend his final days in a beautiful homelike setting surrounded by scenic country vistas with such care and attention to his and his family's needs. We are so grateful to all of you! As per Glen's requests following cremation and at a later date, a private family memorial will be held with interment of Glen and Jean's remains in the Tofield Cemetery. In lieu of floral tributes, memorial donations to either the Edmonton's Grey Nuns Palliative Care Unit 43 or the VON Sakura House would be appreciated and may be made through the Smith-LeRoy Funeral Home, Woodstock, 519-537-3611, www.smithleroy.com. Dad/Grandpa, may your journey continue picking berries with mom. You are forever in our hearts, may you rest in Peace.
