Mary Sidney Mishler Haubner
<p>Mary Sidney Mishler Haubner, 96, of Independence, Iowa died Saturday, November 16, 2013 at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence, Iowa. </p><p><br></p><p>Mary was born on June 7, 1917, in Loretto, KY., the daughter of Tyler and Sarah (Nally) Newton. At the age of seven she moved with her family to Oelwein, Iowa where she received her education in Country Schools and from Sacred Heart Catholic School. Mary was married to Orvis Mishler in 1934, and they farmed in the Fairbank, IA area until moving to Independence, IA in 1945. The couple later divorced. </p><p><br></p><p>A devoted mother, Mary was busy at home raising her six children. When her children were older Mary began working for Anthony’s Department Store. In 1960 she started working for the Mental Health Institute Cromwell Children’s Unit working until her retirement in 1979. In her retirement years Mary enjoyed spending her winters in Florida where she met Otto Haubner. On October 10, 1992 she and Otto where married in St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence, IA. The couple summered in Independence and wintered in Florida. They also spent time traveling until Otto died in 2003. </p><p><br></p><p>Mary’s many beautiful flower gardens were admired by family and friends over the years. Besides gardening one of Mary’s favorite past times was fishing, which was also enjoyed by many in the back yard of her home on the banks of the Wapsipinicon River. She loved animals and had two very special dogs, Babe and Missy. Her children remember that she used to sing to them when they were younger, singing songs when they were in the car as well as at home. But nothing was more enjoyable to Mary than time spent with her children, grandchildren, sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews. </p><p><br></p><p>Mary often remarked that she had been deeply blessed with her children and family. Those left to cherish her memory are three sons; LeRoy (Rose) Mishler, Naples, FL, Richard (Mary) Mishler, Spirit Lake, IA, step-son; Frank Haubner, Chicago, IL, four daughters; Karen (Jim) Mason, Lehigh Acres, Fl, Linda Hall (Barry Wilson) Cedar Rapids, IA, Teresa (Darrell) Horn, Independence, IA, and Charisse Faris (Dennis Clark), Waterloo, IA, twenty grandchildren, forty one great grandchildren and thirteen great-great grandchildren, three sisters; Sarah Mattingly, Lebonan, KY, Kay (Phil) Roberts, Bardstown, KY, and Shirley (Ray) Downs, Bloomfield KY. </p><p><br></p><p>She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, six brothers; Jack, Elmer, Addison, Marlus, Paul and Garland Newton, and two sisters; Anna Mary Bayness and Margarite Johnson. </p><p><br></p><p>A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday at St. John’s Catholic Church, Independence, IA with Rev. Don Plamondon officiating. Burial will be in the St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Independence, IA. Friends may call from 3 to 8 PM Tuesday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence where a rosary will be recited at 3 PM and a parish vigil service will be held at 7:30 PM Tuesday. </p><p><br></p><p><br></p>June 7, 1917 - November 16, 201306/07/191711/16/2013
