Glenn Gordon Waffle Obituary

Glenn Gordon Waffle, age 65, of Morris, ended his journey and fight with cancer on October 12, 2012, with his loving family at his side. Glenn was born in New Berlin, NY, the son of Ralph Waffle and Marie MacLeod Waffle, of Glasgow, Scotland. Glenn regretted not having the chance to know his mother, who passed when he was 18 months old. He was raised in South Edmeston by his grandparents, Harold and Birdella Waffle. Glenn married Mona Moore on December 10, 1977, at the United Methodist Church in Morris. Together, in their home on Littlewood Road, they raised their “magnificent seven”: Julie Marie, Sherry Lynn, Jacqueline Renee, Lisa Anne, Jeffrey Kenneth, Stephanie MacLeod and Michael Gary. As a child, Glenn attended a one-room schoolhouse in South Edmeston and proudly filled the role of “the only student in the fifth grade.” In 1965, he graduated from New Berlin Central School. Glenn began his career in farming at the age of eleven with his grandfather and worked on local farms until he took a position in the feed store at the I.L. Richer Company in New Berlin. His admirable work ethic helped him to become a salesman for the company and later, Sales Manager and Vice President of Sales & Marketing. Glenn became a partner/stockholder in the company in 1982 and he championed the high level of customer service that was the corner stone of the company's success. In regards to his career, Glenn was most proud of his instrumental role in developing Richer’s business in the North Country, first with the acquisition of Lowville Feed & Grain and then with the expansion in Adams Center. His humor, fairness and integrity left him with many lifelong friends in the business. Upon retiring, Glenn purchased Cee Jay Golf Course in Laurens, with Mona and Jeffrey & Julene Waffle; it is now known as Colonial Ridge Golf. It was Glenn’s dream to run this business with sons Jeffrey and Michael. His family will dearly miss seeing him out on the course, riding the carts with his beloved dog Bunker and enjoying his well deserved retirement. Glenn was an outdoorsman his entire life and enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf and his childhood along the Unadilla River. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Morris, Morris Central School Board of Education, the Masons, Lions Club, Jaycees, Cub Scouts, the Morris Rotary and the Butternut Valley Rod & Gun Club. Glenn is survived by his wife, Mona, his children and their families: Julie Waffle and partner Sharon Kupiec; Sherry Waffle and Tim O’Conner with children Thomas & Alyx Martin, Christie and TJ O’Conner; Jacqueline Tripp and husband Roger with children Derrick & Taylor; Lisa Eklund and husband Robert with children Gina, Katiemarie & Gabrielle; Jeffrey Waffle and wife Julene with children Lincoln, Levi & Lucas; Stephanie Connally and husband Thomas with son Broden; Michael Waffle and wife Denise. Glenn was predeceased by granddaughter, Marina Anne Eklund. He adored being a husband, father, grandfather and “Pop.” Other family members with whom Glenn spent many precious days include his dear Aunt Joyce Waffle; cousins, Gary “Pug” Waffle, Sandy Young, Teri Polak, Stacey Hurlbutt; his sister, Rose Civiok and brothers, Ed & David Waffle. John Mitchell and the “IL Richer Boys” held a special place in Glenn’s heart. Glenn asked that his thanks be expressed to the members of Colonial Ridge Golf for their love and support, Saint Peter’s Cancer Care Center, the third floor nursing staff at Bassett Hospital, Chestnut Park and Catskill Area Hospice for all of their care and guidance. Calling Hours will be held at Johnston’s Funeral Home in Morris, NY, on Thursday, October 18 from 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm. A private Memorial Celebration will be held on Friday, October 19, at Colonial Ridge Golf beginning at 11:00 am.
