Bertel Williams Obituary

Bertel Williams was born January 25, 1947 to the late Alva and Maud Williams in Trewlawny, Jamaica West Indies. He entered eternal rest June 5, 2016 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family. Bertel has been a resident of Bridgeport for the past twenty-two years. He was last employed by Prime Resource as a custodian. He attended Clarkstown Alage school. After Bertel graduated school he worked at Longpond Estate for a number of years. He relocated to St. Catherine, Spanishtown in 1971 with his 2 brothers, Sindair and Clement Williams; he worked as a painter and vendor; there he met the love of his life, his wife, Miriam in 1979 and never went back to Trewlawny. He adopted her 3 children as his own and brought his son from Trewlawny; to add to their union they had Fiona. In 1987 he came to the United States and became a permanent residence in 1994 and sent for his family. Bertel worked at Prime Resources Corporation in Bridgeport, CT. After retirement Bertel still worked as a handyman until he could no longer work. Bertel was a kind and loving person who loved his family dearly. Even when he was sick he still wanted to work. He should be remembered as a hard working devoted father and a loving husband. He took care of his family until his unfortunate illness took him away from his family. Although he has transitioned from labor to reward he will be greatly missed by his family. He leaves to cherish his memory of twenty years, his wife Miriam Simpson Williams of Bridgeport; two sons, Linford Williams of Jamaica, WI and George Morris of Bridgeport; three daughters, Fiona Williams, Camille Johnson and Viviene Griffiths all of Bridgeport; six brothers, Sinclair, Vincent, and Clement Williams, Martin Goodrich, all of Bridgeport; Gilbert Williams of Stamford and James Williams of Jamaica; two sisters, Sylvia Goodrich and Jadene Williams of Bridgeport; seventeen grandchildren; a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
