Ila Florence Glenn Obituary

Ila Florence Stuck Glenn Born March 7, 1924 Died December 11, 2019 Ila Florence Glenn died in the presence of her family Dec. 11, 2019 at her home in Kalama, Washington. She was 95 years old. A funeral Mass will be held Thursday, December 19, 2019 at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Southeast Portland. Internment will follow at Willamette National Cemetery. Ila was born to Frank and Ivan Stuck on March 7, 1924 in rural Nebraska. She was the eldest of nine children. Growing up in rural farmland during the depression, Ila had to persevere with very little. She loved to share these memories with her children and grandchildren. Eventually Ila's family moved to eastern Colorado. It was here she met her childhood sweetheart Wesley Glenn. She graduated from Eckley High School in in 1942. Ila and Wesley wed in 1942 in Wichita Falls, Texas, shortly before Wesley went off to serve in the Army Air Corps in World War II. The couple had six children, five of whom lived into adulthood. After the war, Ila and her husband moved to Portland and became active parishioners at St. Ignatius Parish in Southeast Portland. St. Ignatius was where the couple raised and educated their children, each of whom attended the parish school. Over her life of 95 years, Ila found community wherever she went: in her square dancing group, among her fellow painters, in her bowling league and in every church she called home. Ila is survived by her sisters Elaine Rethwill-Johnson, Joyce Carter, Janyce Gates; her children Stanley Glenn, Le'Nae Ross, Steven Glenn and Robert Glenn; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Wesley Glenn; her siblings Frank Stuck, Jr., Don Stuck, Robert Stuck and Ida Utting; her daughters Michele Glenn and Sherri Valnes; and her grandson Jacob Glenn. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Anthony of Padua Parish at 3720 SE 79th Avenue, Portland, OR 97206 or to PeaceHealth Southwest Hospice at https://friends-of-hospice.org/donate.
