Carole A Moran

Carole Ann Moran, 71, of Shelburne died peacefully Sunday, December 8, 2019. She was born in Philadelphia, PA, on March 25, 1948, the son of William and Diane (Oliver) Farnham. On May 3, 1969 she married her former kindergarten classmate-turned-high school sweetheart, David Erin Moran in Philadelphia, PA. Carole and Dave put themselves through college at Villanova University while simultaneously beginning to raise a family. She was the only women in many of her classes and often faced a less then supportive environment, especially when attending class pregnant or with small children in tow on campus. None-the-less Carole graduated at the top of her class with a degree in accounting. Carole went on to build a 34-year career at IBM where she eventually became an accounting and finance manager. Her husband Dave also built his career at IBM and their family upheld the unofficial company motto of "I've-Been-Moved"; living in Endicott, NY, South Burlington, VT, and even Rochester, MN for six weeks (which they called a vacation with furniture). During her productive career Carole attained progressively higher levels of responsibility and was well respected for her unflagging work ethic, level headed demeanor, and unfailing kindness. She successfully juggled a demanding career and a busy family. In 2005 IBM recognized Carole with the Heritage Award for innovative leadership. Carole enjoyed travel, skiing, and sailing. She was proud and supportive of her children and grandchildren and loved the family's numerous pets. Carole was especially attached to her canine companions and enjoyed competing in obedience trials. In retirement she enjoyed volunteering with the Ronald McDonald house at the University of Vermont Childrens Hospital. She was a member of St. John Vianney Parish for over 25 years. Carole is survived by her daughter Patricia C. Moran of Jackson Spring, NC and Burnham, ME, her son David F. Moran and his wife Melissa Moran of Starksboro, VT, and her son William M. Moran and his wife Colleen Moran of Hinesburg, VT; her grandchildren Ellie Moran and Ryan Moran of Hinesburg, William Moran, Katherine Moran, and Caleb Moran of Starksboro; her brothers-in-law Frank Moran and Michael Moran; her brother William W. Farnham and his wife Cynthia Farnham, her brother Donald P. Farnham and his wife Debra Farnham. Carole was predeceased by her husband David E. Moran, her parents William and Diana Farnham, her in-laws Frank and Helen Moran, and her sister-in-law Kate Moran. An hour of visitation will take place today December 13, 2019 from 11:00 until 12:00 noon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 PM at St. John Vianney Roman Catholic Church with burial to follow in Resurrection Park Cemetery in South Burlington. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make contributions in Caroles memory to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Burlington, VT (www.rmhcvt.org/donate)
