Jerome Horning

Garden City- Jerome R. “Jerry” Horning, 75, died on Wednesday, December 11, 2019, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City. He was born on May 25, 1944, in Garden City the son of John James & Ludwina (Kreutzer) Horning. Jerry graduated from Garden City High School. He joined the United States Air Force from 1965 to 1972 and served as a Staff Sergeant in Vietnam. After his discharge, he moved to Wichita and then back to Garden City where he worked in the refrigeration department at IBP and later in the printing room at the Garden City Telegram. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and The American Legion. His special interest was watching sports, especially football. He was preceded in death by his Parents and 4 Brothers- Julius Horning, Dennis Horning, Alex Horning and Leroy Horning. He is survived by 2 Sons- J.K. Horning of Riverton, Wyoming and Nathan Horning of Powell, Wyoming, Daughter- Louanne Cowles of Laramie, Wyoming, 2 Brothers- James Horning of Garden City and Cletus Horning of Lake Havasu, Arizona, Sister- Sylvia Knoll of Deerfield and 7 Grandchildren. Vigil Service will be at 7:00 PM Sunday and Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Jacob Schneider as Celebrant. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery with military honors. Memorials are suggested to St. Mary Catholic Church in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
