Darrell Albert Hornung
Darrell Albert Hornung, 74, of Montrose, Iowa passed away at 3:47 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at the Fort Madison Community Hospital. Born July 30, 1941 in Keokuk, Iowa the son of Albert and Madeline (Weirather) Hornung. On July 11, 1965 he married Dorothy Heaton in Fort Madison, Iowa. Survivors include his wife; Dorothy of Montrose, two sons; Robert (Kathy) Hornung of Montrose and Brad (Michelle) Hornung of Montrose, four grandchildren; Ashton, Kaitlyn, Bailey and Eric. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister; Karen and one brother; Hubert. Darrell enlisted with the United States Army Reserve in 1961 where he was a mechanic and a sharp shooter. Darrell was an avid hunter, he enjoyed spending time with his wife and hunting with his two boys. He worked at Chevron in Fort Madison for twenty four years. Upon the plant closing, Darrell continued farming full time. He loved raising beef cattle. Friends may call between 12:00 noon and 5:00 p.m. Sunday, June 12, 2016 at the Schmitz Funeral Home in Donnellson, Iowa where the family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. that day. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 13, 2016 at the Schmitz Funeral Home in Donnellson with Pastor Jamey Stout officiating. Burial will be at the Argyle Memorial Gardens in rural Argyle. A memorial has been established in his memory. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.schmitzfuneralhomes.com .
