Paul Wayne Franks Obituary

Paul Wayne Franks, 76, of Pampa, joined his beloved wife in heaven on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at his home with family by his side. He was born on October 3, 1943 to James and Lucille Franks in Shamrock, Texas.

Paul married his lifelong bride, Vesta Colleen Lee, on October 7, 1962 in Wheeler and they had been married for 54 years when she passed away in 2017. He was known to be the best John Deere mechanic in Shamrock for many years. Being that he was a very knowledgeable in this area, it led him to Floydada, Memphis as well as Clovis, New Mexico all as a John Deere mechanic and eventually to Boys Ranch to teach mechanics for six years. The last three years of his career, he had worked as a security guard for Allied National. Paul couldn’t stand to see someone sad, gloomy or upset and he would do whatever necessary to bring a smile to their face. He gained great joy from picking on others and could be quite ornery at times, but he did so all in the name of fun. He loved to go fishing, but others were leery of going with him because he seemed to be a snake “magnet” while on the water. Paul spent countless hours watching old westerns and he practically idolized John Wayne.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Vesta Colleen Franks; his parents; two brothers, Donnie Franks, JP Franks and a sister, Dorothy Franks.

He has left behind to remember his laughter, three children, Paulina Woods and husband Donald of White Deer, Gary Franks and wife Jurenda of Pampa, Otis Franks and wife Jonie of Shamrock; two brothers, Jimmy Franks and wife Darlene of Shamrock, Larry Franks and wife Connie of Canadian; 13 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and his best friend and Dairy Queen partner, Lucy, his dog.

Celebration of Life Graveside Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 13, 2019 at Memory Gardens Cemetery Mausoleum with Interim Hospice Chaplain, Penny Harvey officiating. The family has entrusted the care of their loved one to Winegeart Funeral Home.

Should you prefer to make donations, the family has requested they be made to Interim Hospice of Pampa, 2717 Perryton Parkway, Pampa, Texas 79065 in memory of Paul.
