Robert "Ray" R Sigmon

Robert R. “Ray” Sigmon, age 94, passed away on December 8th, 2019 in Lander, Wyoming. Born April 16, 1925 at Diana, Tennessee, he was the son of Harrison C. and Effie L. Mosley Sigmon. He was raised and educated in Southern Tennessee. Ray trained on aircraft engine rebuilding and worked in the test cells at Brookley Field in Mobile, Alabama, before serving in the U.S. Navy aboard a Destroyer stationed with the Atlantic and Pacific Fleet during WWII, until the end of the war. In 1947, he moved to Louisiana and worked in the oil and gas industry along the Louisiana and Texas Coast. In Liberty, Texas he met and married Cathern Allen in early 1949. Mr. and Mrs. Sigmon moved to Casper, Wyoming in 1950 to work for a major engine distributor in the Rocky Mountain energy industry. In 1963, he started a business for himself. In 1968 he and his wife founded Industrial Engine Service and later Industrial Rental Service; retiring from both companies in mid-1980’s. He was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church of Lander, Casper Lodge #15-AF-AM-of Wyoming-Scottish Rite, Korein Temple, Shriners and also the V.F.W. Ray’s hobbies included big game hunting, fishing, horseback riding and camping in the mountains. He and his wife Cathern traveled and visited the fifty states of the USA, Western Canada, and six of the continents of the world. He is survived by his wife of 70 years Cathern of the family home; a daughter Fran Strand of Lander; a son Robert and his wife Kay of Casper; four granddaughters, Kerri Stand of Broomfield, CO, Laurie Strand and husband Ken Becker of Fort Collins, CO, Valerie Honken and husband Brian and Ashley Williams and husband Brad all of Casper; and six great-grandchildren of Casper and Fort Collins, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers. Should friends desire, memorials can be made to The Shriners Hospital for Children, 1275 E Fairfax Rd, Salt Lake City, UT 84103.
