Mrs. Gail Scott Carnes, age 73 of Whitesburg, Georgia passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at her residence. Mrs. Carnes was born in Carroll County, Georgia on August 14, 1946, the daughter of the late Brice Virgil Scott and Mary Nell James Scott. She was a 1964 graduate of Carrollton High School and attended West Georgia College after graduating high school. She was in the banking industry for 54 years in Coweta County having worked at Bank of Coweta and Charter Bank now CenterState Bank. Mrs. Carnes was very involved in the Coweta Chamber of Commerce, Alzheimer’s Support of Carroll County and former Whitesburg City Councilwoman. Mrs. Carnes was a strong woman in the faith, being a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Whitesburg where she had taught Sunday school and served over the cemetery and home missions’ funds. Second to her faith was her deep love for her family. She is survived by her husband, Wyndel Carnes; daughters and sons-in-law, Kati Carnes Farmer and Chris of Carrollton, Holly Carnes Garner and Josh of Whitesburg; grandchildren, Gracie Farmer, Wyatt Farmer, Cooper Farmer; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sherry Scott Tuggle of Carrollton, Vicki Scott Scudder and Bud of Carrollton, Connie Scott Smith and Johnny of Carrollton; nephews and nieces, Brad and Karen Tuggle, Phil and Lori Tuggle, Mandy and Mark Anderson, Lyndi and Mike Mashburn, Camp Scudder and Haley Scudder. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Jerry Tuggle; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lamar and Kathleen Carnes; brother-in-law, Lanny Carnes and cousin, Camilla Stevens Cooper. The family will receive friends at Antioch Baptist Church, 1835 E. Hwy 5, Whitesburg, GA 30185, on Saturday, December 14 from noon until 2 p.m. The funeral service will follow the visitation at 2 p.m. with Rev. Alvin Hunnicutt officiating. Music will be by Judy Hunnicutt. Pallbearers will be Jayson Pate, Billy Carnes, Wes Carnes, Mike Mashburn, Mark Anderson and Camp Scudder. Honorary pallbearers will be Brad Tuggle, Phil Tuggle, Robert Gordon and Billy Alford. Interment will be in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Gary Brown officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 1101 Northchase Pkwy, Marietta, GA 30067 or Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 1835 E.
